You never would've expected it. And that's what made it so devastating. All across the world, people have been wiped out by a virus called the Marburg virus.
It is named after a small and idyllic town on the river Lahn - but that has nothing to do with the disease itself. The Marburg virus was a hemorrhagic fever virus. As with Ebola, the Marburg virus causes convulsions and bleeding of mucous membranes, skin and organs.
We are the only people who are immune to it-that we know of. You may be wondering, who are we? Well my friend, I'll show you.
I'm Celeste, Your average teenage girl (besides the weapons and scars). All I wanted in life was to graduate, and become a scientist. You'd think if I was so intelligent from being ahead of everyone is my school, I would be able to figure out the cure. You may be wondering, if scientists (who have experience and have trained for these things) couldn't have figured it out, how would she? The truth is...Well...I'm not exactly human...
Then there's Grace, she's filled with energy, curiosity, and somehow always gets herself into trouble. If you ask me she's more of the adventurous one- besides Alice. Although Grace can get indecisive some times. You can't get anything past her really. She wanted to move to California and start a job as a magazine writer. Our parents died of the virus on her 16th birthday...she had just gotten home from school when police surrounded our home.
Alice, she's a tricky one. She's not afraid to step up and try harder. Getting on her bad side is the last thing you want to do. She's not afraid to say something to your face and get away with it. She's mysterious, and that's what I love about her. Her life has always been a mystery to us, even though we're sisters.
That's us. The whole gang.
