Phil was a good person. He was nice and caring. Dan wanted to befriend him so bad, but he refused to let him have a place in his heart. If he did, both of them would suffer and Phil would end the same way as Beth. Thinking about her still hurt as much as it did before.

Dan tried to distract his mind and concentrated in the movie he was seeing. It was Hercules, yes the one from Disney. He liked the movie a lot, it was one of his favourites and surprisingly, one of Phil's too.

After watching the movie, Dan was ready to escape the house. Phil didn't have the same idea.

"So, Dan, what's your story?" Phil asked.
"Erm... What do you mean whit "my story" ?"
"Well... Your story... I told part of mine. I was bullied and moved here to change schools." He answered.

Crap, he had to make up a lie.
"Well... I'm not interested, like, at all. I moved here too because my parents found a better job in this town. That's mainly it." Well, that wasn't so bad, Dan thought.
"Erm... I really have to go." Dan was growing impatient. He wanted to leave Phil's house, but at the same time, he liked being with him. The boy had a calming effect on him and after Beth's death, it was what he needed.

"Oh, yeah right. Well, it was fun!" Phil said as he led Dan to the door.
"Yeah. But please, promise me you won't talk to me again. I don't want to be friends.. Sorry" Saying those words hurt Dan a lot, but he couldn't afford being guilty of another death.

Phil just nodded and closed the door. A small tear fell from his eyes, but he wiped it away quickly.

The next day Dan sat on his usual spot, but shortly before the bell rang Phil sat down next to him.

"I thought I told you to stay away from me... And you promised it."
"Yeah... I lied." Phil grinned.
Dude, seriously? I'm trying no to make friends for god's sakes! But a little part of him was jumping happily at the thought of having a friend.
Avoiding Phil was going to be difficult.

He sat beside Dan every class and they were together in every group work. No person or teacher could take them apart, specially Phil. He just didn't leave Dan's side. But the brown eyed boy wasn't really complaining.
Well, the first days he was always trying to avoid Phil in every way, but he was a stubborn little shit. As time went by, Dan wasn't trying so hard to get the boy out of his way, well to be honest, he wasn't trying at all.

Whenever Phil started talking to him a smile crept to his lips. His voice had a calming effect, like a very slow classical music, which makes you feel like nothing else matters at the moment. Dan liked that. It was a distraction from all the thoughts that roamed around his head.

"Hey do you wanna go to my place and do something?" Asked Phil.
"Hmm, it depends what 'something' means" Dan responded.
"Well, my two cousins are coming over and they'll probably bring a game or something" that didn't sound so bad, thought Dan.
"Okay, I'm in!"

-

Phil's cousins were a bit older than him.
And when Phil said a game, Dan imagined 'Clue' or 'Monopoli', not what they had brought.

On the table were three bottles of vodka and one tequila. Beside them were two sprites and one OJ.

Well this isn't what I expected, thought Dan.
"Frank what the hell! I thought you said a game, not getting drunk" exclaimed Phil angrily at his cousin.
"Oh don't worry, we're gonna have fun anyway! Plus, I brought some friends! This is Pete, Mikey and Gerard. Guys, this is my cousin Phil and..." Frank looked at Dan and then at Phil, expecting him to present his friend. But he didn't move.
The awkward silence was interrupted by Dan "I'm Dan, Phil's friend".
"Nice to meet you" said the boys.

And so the game began.

One glass after another
