Chapter One
The past few months had been hard for our family, but we got through them. My mother had died two months ago and my brother, Justin and I couldn't help but think that it was our fault. It was though, we could have stopped her. I'm nineteen and my brother is eighteen, and we went out for a few drinks but Justin got into a little trouble with someone he used to go school with. They started to argue but that soon turned into a fight which soon got out of hand which led to Justin getting punched in the face that slowly turned into a very big bruise surrounding his eye. We walked home and that’s when my mother saw it and tried to act all hero. She marched to the club, and started to kick off. She punched the guy in the stomach and left but got followed by one of his female friends who started to have a go at my mother. They started arguing and they both walked into the road and... And got hit by a passing lorry. It severely injured them both. The other woman died before they got her to hospital. My mother died there, in a hospital bed, with my step dad sat next to her squeezing her hand and me and Justin at the other side of the room crying into our hands.
I will never forget this. How it was our fault. If Justin had just walked away then he never would have got hurt. Or if I had tried to stop them. I just had to get my mind off this, so I went for a walk.
It was pretty late but I just walked around the area for a bit, just to clear my head and hopefully get my mind off things. As I was walking down the street I heard a lot of noise coming from the nearby pub. I walked a little closer to the window to have a look but before I could get close enough, a body came flying through it and landed in front of me. A second after, a tall woman came through the door and stood over him, looking down, “Touching a girls bum isn’t gonna get you anywhere except through windows!” The man scrambled up onto his feet and ran down the street.
I just stared at her surprised. She smiled at me and laughed a little. “You look shocked.” She said to me. She was tall with hair as black as a raven’s wing. She was wearing black skinny jeans and a red lacy corset with black lacy high heels.
I tried to snap out of it and reply before she thought I was a weirdo. “Umm well yeah, I mean you just threw that guy through a window.”
She laughed again, “Well he shouldn’t have felt me up! Anyway, hi I’m Raven.” She put out her hand to shake mine.
I shook her hand and replied, “hi I’m Scarlett.”
“Nice name! It’s cute!” She said.
“Um thanks… I think.” I mumbled.
She started to walk down the street, but stopped and turned around. “Do you wanna come? I’m going to the club down the road.”
I was about to reply with a yes but then remembered that the club she was going to, was the same one I and Justin went to two months ago. The same one that my mother got hit by a car outside of. The same club that practically contributed to her death. “No, I don’t really like that place.” I replied.
“Well I know another place we can go. Come on.” She commanded.
I didn’t even know this girl and here I was going to a club with her. This is not the sort of thing I usually do but it would keep my mind of my mother so, why not.
