Five years ago my father left my mother for a skank on the police force with him. They moved away and I never saw them again. That is until he shows up, apparently being the best the police force has. “Dad? What the hell are you doing here?”
“Oh momma said bad word!”
“Sorry Tay, but now’s not the time. Can you go to your bedroom and play please?”
“Yes momma,”
Waiting till she was gone, I blew up on the man I know as my sperm donor, “What the hell are you doing here? At my house? On the same day that my child goes missing?”
“I’m sorry miss you must have me confused with someone else.”
“No, I know exactly who you are, but you must not recognize me seeing as you haven’t seen me in five years. I know that you used to love your daughter until you met your new whore of a partner and left my mother for her.”
“Leah? Oh my God! Leah I’ve missed you so much I had no idea you were even in town. How long have you been here? Why didn’t you call me?”
“Listen Eric now’s not the time for those questions. My baby girl is missing, and I want her back. Apparently you’re the best on the police force so you are going to get her back. Is that clear? Because if not I’ll go somewhere else and it will be a lot longer than five years till you see me or your grandchildren again.”
“Grandchildren? Your mother said you only had one child a little girl.”
“No, I have two girls. One of which is missing.”
“Oh yes right. When was the last time you saw her?”
“When I put her to bed last night.”
“Are you seeing anyone?”
“Yes, I’m engaged to be married to Jace, you know the guy sitting next to me.”
“Oh yes of course you are. Have you met anyone that could have been a threat?”
“No I hardly leave the house unless I’m taking the girls to daycare, or going to the grocery store… Wait, when I first moved here my car broke down and me and Izzie hitched a ride with a local named Keegan. I haven’t seen him since.”
“Izzie? Is that the child’s name?”
“Her name is Iszatleigh Maree.”
“Okay I think that’s all I need to know I’ll be in contact very soon.”
After he left guests started to show up. One by one I had to tell them the bad news and ask them to leave. Every time they said sorry I broke down again.
When I thought everyone had come I curled up on the couch with Tay so I could feel safe again.
Next thing I know there’s a knock on the door. “Jace! Could you get that?”
“What do you think you’re doing here?”
“I’m sorry but I really need to talk to Leah, its about Izzie.”
“If you haven’t heard Iszatleigh is missing, so Leah doesn’t want to talk right now. You need to leave my house I don’t want any trouble where there wasn’t any to begin with.” That’s my man always doing what he thinks is right.
“You let my child go missing?!”
“Actually she’s not yours I adopted her.” That’s right! Stick that in your juice box and suck it Mason.”
All to soon I hear a noise that I never wanted to hear, the sound of a bullet piercing the heart of the man I loved.
