After school, I call Mom, telling her I'm going straight to Lindsay's house, even though it cancels out my plan of driving to the costume store and driving to Lindsay's house myself. She says that it's okay and tells me to be home by 11:30. It's good enough.

I should be grateful since Mom persuaded Dad to let me go to this party, saying I should enjoy my teenage years and it would be good for me to get out of the house. I mean, what am I gonna do on Halloween? Help Mom hand out candy to greedy little kids in costumes and bore myself to death with cheap 80's horror movies on DVD? Screw that!

We take Ally's car to Lindsay's house while Lindsay drives home on her own and Lily and Rose share their car. The party starts at 7:30, so we have enough time to get ready. We're driving towards Lindsay's place, blasting Rihanna, when suddenly, Ally turns the corner towards Party City and drives into the parking lot.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Buying a costume," she says.

"You mean, you don't have a costume either?" I ask.

I'm surprised. I thought Ally would've had hers by now.

"Haven't got a chance to come up here," she says. "Plus, I didn't have enough money. But I borrowed a twenty from Ryan before we left." She fists pumps as she parks in front of the front entrance.

Ryan is Ally's on again, off-again boyfriend. They've been dating since high school started and had a record of breaking up fifteen times since then. Lindsay has a boyfriend too. His name is David, this pothead she met at one of Ricky's parties back in ninth grade. David smokes and does anything: Cigarettes, bongs, weed, meth, you name it. I once saw him smoking weed outside behind the school. Don't why Lindsay's obsessed with him the way she is, but love is love. And who am I to judge? I'm dating a guy who is hot, but his kisses aren't, and l like another guy who is way out of my league and will probably never date.

"Thank God we're here," Eleanor says as Ally unlocks the door. "I already have a costume, but I'm not too sure if I want to wear it or not."

"You know, we could've just went to the costume store near your house," I say to Ally. That was the costume store I was going to go to since it's, 1. cheap, and 2. nearest to my house too.

"That cheap ass store that smells like dog shit?" Ally asks. "Screw that! Plus there are much better costumes here."

"But I don't have that much money," I say.

"Relax, Amanda," Eleanor says. "We've got you covered."

Before I can protest, Ally grab my arm and literally drags me towards Party City. We spend a half an hour trying on costumes, such as sexy angels, devils, nurses, cowgirls, before we finally settle on what we want to buy. Ally buys a sexy devil's costume complete with plastic horns, a small pitch fork, and long, red boots we found in the clearance aisle, Eleanor buys a sexy cowgirl outfit with a pink cowgirl hat and small, leather, brown boots with a stars on each side, and I buy a sexy cat outfit complete with fluffy, black cat ears and a tail that clips onto the back. Hopefully, Lindsay will have some black high heels I can borrow.

"You think Ricky will like the costume?" I ask as we get back into Ally's car. Honestly, I could care less if Ricky thinks I'll look sexy or not. I really care if Oliver will like it. I don't want to look like a slut, but I also want to look attractive and blow him away.

Ally takes one look at the outfit in the plastic wrapping. "With you in that that thing? He'll be all over you in a second."

"And hopefully, you'll do much more than kissing this time," Eleanor giggles from the back.
