Lilah's Point of View

I danced around with my earbuds tucked in my ears. I grabbed clothes and books that were haphazardly strewn about. I pranced into the bathroom and grabbed brushes, make-up, anything I might've needed, shoving it all into the already overstuffed backpack. I walked into the kitchen and tore through the cabinets, grabbing all the food that would keep and stuffed it in. I turned and saw Luke, another foster kid and jumped back, pulling out m earbuds.

"What the heck, Luke?" I screeched at him.

"How did you not hear me? I called out your name like 50 times!" He looked defensive and crossed his 10-year-old arms at me.

"I had my earbuds in." I turned back and kept collecting food.

"Whatever. Are you packing? Gonna run away?" His voice was mocking, but his eyes were serious.

"As a matter of fact, yes I am." I turned for the door.

"What? You can't-" Luke started, but stopped when I ran into the buggest, ugliest woman I've ever met.

"Ugla." I spat. I hated the disgusting creature.

"Lilah. Where do you think you're going?" She daunted me. I was horrified. How had this creature managed to get married and even reproduce? She had to be at least 6 foot 7 and weigh more than a pro wrestler.

"Out." I reply with a smirk on my face.

"I don't think so. You have therapy in a half hour." Ulga smiled. I grimaced at the horrifying sight.

"No thanks." I say "I'm not too fond of Dr. Vaughn."

"I wasn't asking Lilah." She began to look irritated. This pushed me further.

"And yet, I answered." I was feeling good. There was no way I was backing down now.

Ulga's face reddened. Before I could say anything else, her hand was flying and struck me across the face. Hard.

I stumbled backwards and fell down. I gripped my cheek and stared at her in shock.

"Get up, you insolent girl. We are going to see Dr. Vaughn, no questions." Ulga spat at me in disgust.

I slowly stood, still in shock. I walked to the car and got in without further arguement. We arrived at the therapist and I walked into the waiting room and sat down. Seconds later, I hear a crash and screaming. Two security gaurds burst through the door to the back offices and they are carrying a teenaged boy. He is struggling to get out of their arms. He looks at me and smirks. We lock eyes and his turn a deep black. Seconds later, they return to their normal blue. I gasp, realizing what this means.

Dr.Vaughn comes from the back, looking exhausted. He looks over at me and sighs.

"Come on back, Delilah."

"How've you been Delilah?" Dr. Vaughn questions.

"It's just Lilah. And I don't know. Okay, I guess."

"Are you still hallucinating?"

"They're not halluncinations. They're shadows and they turn people evil." I mutter, starting to get irritated.

"Tell me more about these, shadows." Dr. Vaughn says. He says the word shadows as if it tasted badly.

"I don't know. They fly around and then they'll see this person. These people always have cracks-"

"Cracks?" Dr.Vaughn interrupts

"Cracks are.. Well, you see, everyone has this glow. It looks like glass. Sometimes, if a person is damaged-"

"Damaged? How does one become damaged?" Dr.Vaughn asks and I begin to grow frusterated with his constant interruptions.

"Mental illness, traumatic events. Anything that could damaged a person's psyche. Damaged people's glow looks like cracked glass. The shadows notice, and creep in through the cracks, corrupting a person."

I pause, waiting to see if he has any questions. He nods for me to go on.

"Corrupted people turn evil and do crimes. The only way to tell if a person is corrupted, is if their eyes flash black when they look at you." I pause, thinking of the boy in the waiting room. "I've done some research, and what I've gathered is that these shadows are the souls of dead criminals that have been damned to Earth. They want to continue their crimes, so they possess damaged people's bodies and continue with their wrong doings."

It felt so good to finally get all this off my chest.

"Lilah, I hate to say this, but you're not in your right mind. I'm going to have to put you in a mental institution." Dr. Vaughn looks me in the eyes as he says all this.

"Wha-" Two secrurity guards burst through the door and grab me. I kick and struggle, and I feel a needle get shoved into my arm. I fall to the ground.

The last thing I see before I black out is Dr. Vaughn standing above me, eyes flashing black
