Day 1

10 2 1

Its the first day of Senior year at Hunter College for Olivia, and its second period, math. Daydreaming about what her future would be like, what she would be. She looks from the window to her teacher. Someone had caught her eye, a girl named Dakota. Everyone had rumors that she was a lesbian as well, but those rumors were true.

She had tried to flirt with me multiple times but I was to busy to respond to her. But Senior year was different, I wasn't busy, I never was. I looked at her as she raised her head, she had seen me and had mouthed "hi." I responded with a short wave as she asked if I wanted to get lunch with her. I had said Okay, "nothing bad can come bad out of this, right?"

I had guessed that our math teacher had seen us because she had called on Dakota to tell what the answer was to number 3.

"The answer to number 3 is 279," as she explained I continued working on the last question.

"Olivia, can you tell me what the square root of number 4 is?"

As i stood up I felt everyone in the room staring at me, making me think and worry what would happen if my answer was wrong. I said my answer waiting for multiple seconds that felt like minutes.

"Correct, Miss Brewer, you may sit down."

I thought to myself of why she didn't want me to explain my answer, wondering why she asked Dakota to do it. I reminded myself that I was being detracted, then focusing on how my teacher was writing an algebra question on the board.

I had looked at the clock near the chalkboard, only 7 minutes left of math. Waiting while the lesson had ended early and had decided to read. Thinking on what Dakota would say to me next.
