I took my last belongings from my special trunk in my bedroom and layed them across the bed. An old watch my father gave me, one of my mothers old rings she once wore when she had been around my age, 16. I was so empty. I felt like I was living inside of a horrible nightmare. Nothing could be worse than the death of your parents. And not to mention, living in the biggest city ever, New York.

At this point in my life, I knew I was depressed. Luckily, school had just got out for the summer and I didn't have to worry about failing grades or homework. I was happy about that. Other than that, I had nobody for me there at the given point of time. My boyfriend dumped me a week before my parents had died in the plane crash, most of my friends were on vacation, and most of the friends I had came into high school with had either started bombarding themselves with drugs or had become to cool to be my friends anymore. Of course, I had moved on to new friends as well, not because I wanted to, but because it was needed.

My sophmore year I had become great friends with Josie. She was fun, energetic, and I could relate to her on any boy problems. My ex boyfriend, who I was dating at the time, Cal, was amazing. He had good looks. Light brown hair, bright green eyes, a wide smile, broad shoulders, and well. He was just a looker. And I had him, all to myself. Now girls always wondered why he was into me, and at times, I did so too. I'm tall, lanky, and somewhat fit. My hair is dark brown, long, and sticks with beach curls. My big, light brown eyes are the only thing I thought I might have going for me, and that's it. But apparently there is a lot more to me than that.

Josie walked into my room, and I looked at her. Her hair was pulled back into a brown-blonde highlighted bun, and her makeup was fresh looking. She walked up to me and hugged me tightly and I did back. She was the best friend I had, and I had to go to my grandparents without her.

"Anna, call me right when you get to your grandparents. I want to make sure you get there safely and that you are doing alright. I love you sis." her eyes teared up. I wanted to bring Josie with me but she had a life and family here, as I didn't. My eyes teared up too, and she took something out of her pocket before she turned to leave.

"To keep you safe." She handed me a small, clip on, pendant. It was an eye, outlined with gold and the pupil bright blue.

"What is this?" I asked.

"Some lady at a crazy shop 'had to sell it' she said. She basically slammed it in my hand and told me to give it to the closest person I knew. Obviously you. She said it warded off bad spirits." She blinked. "I hope it works for you Anna. I hope everything turns out alright. I'm sorry about your parents."

I looked at her and we hugged again. "Goodbye Anna." She whimpered.

"Goodbye Josie. I'll call you when I get to my grandparents."
