Haylee's POV
I woke up the next morning in Nick's arms, on the couch. I was still in my dress. "Hey Nick," I sat up. He looked side to side before looking at me. "Hey, what time is it?"
"It's -" He looked at his phone. "It's nine am. We're late."
"Ugh," I sighed. I grabbed my go bag. I went with Nick to the precinct. I tied up my hair. "Okay. It's nine forty eight."
"Late night or just dressed early for a shoot?" Finn asked.
"I don't have a photoshoot today," I sighed. "I met my idol last night and he bring me a late prom and then Nick had a meal set up so we didn't sleep until late.' I looked at the time. "Then, I have to go pick up my dad from the hospital." Olivia walked in. "Hey Liv."
"Okay, Haylee," Olivia pointed at me. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to work," I replied. "Why wouldn't I be here?"
"It's your birthday, so go home," Olivia replied.
"That's funny, Liv," I nodded. "I have to go get my dad. So, I'll be back." I went to the hospital and got my dad. He had to ride a wheelchair because his legs weren't strong enough. "Dad, we have to go to the precinct."
"I need food," Dad replied.
"I'm sure Olivia has food down at the precinct for you," I sighed. We got to the precinct and I parked my father at my desk. "Here." I put 2 tacos in front of him. "Eat."
"It's good to not see you in a bed, sir," Nick replied.
"Thank you," Dad nodded.
"Mr. Jennings," Amanda held out her hand. They shook hands. "Wait a minute, David Jennings? Of the Chicago PD?"
"That was when I was in my twenties," Dad nodded.
"Haylee, your dad is a legend back in Chicago," Amanda replied. "Wow. He's the one I look up to."
"My dad was the best," I nodded. "It's nothing new." I went to the bunker and changes into white converses, medium blue denim shorts that faded down into white shorts. I put on a white cami and then a medium blue road trip tank. I kept my hair in a high ponytail. "Alright." I walked into the squad room. "Okay."
"I'm glad you're still here," Olivia nodded.
"Olivia, what do you need me to do?" I asked.
"Play a college transfer student at Fairview," Olivia sighed looking at her file. "Twenty five school homicides. It's like the students are killing each other."
"Sounds good to me," I sighed. "Well, I'll head to the school."
"The teachers and principal are aware of your whereabouts but they will treat you like a student," Olivia warned me. "So, don't do anything that will compromise the case."
"What kind of university is this?" I asked.
"It's staged like a high school," Olivia nodded. "Get close and stay steady. Nick will take care of your dad."
"Alright," I sighed. "I'll see you later." I grabbed the backpack that Amanda handed me on the way out. I walked to the school and stood at the steps just looking at the papers on my hand. "Okay. Scope first." A guy walked up to me. "Hi."
"Hey, I'm Jake," said the guy.
"Haylee," I nodded.
"Transfer?" Jake asked.
"Yeah, I'm an army brat," I sighed. "I'm everywhere." I saw a guy and I looked at him. "Okay."
Jake looked and saw who I was looking at. "Let's go for a school tour, huh?" Jake asked.
I dropped my papers to make it look like Jake made me drop them. "Ugh, look what you just made me do," I replied. "Ugh." Jake started picking them up. "I'll get it. No, no. I'll do it. I'll do it." He just bent over trying to get them together. "I said I'll do it."
"Okay," Jake replied standing up. "No need to go psycho."
"You okay?" the guy that I was looking at came over and Jake left.
I went to pick up my papers until the wind moved them around. "Seriously?" I sighed.
The guy laughed. "You look like you could use some help," he smiled as he helped me grab my papers.
"Yeah," I responded as he handed me my papers. "He wouldn't stop hitting on me."
"Yeah, that sounds like Jake," he nodded.
"Thank you, that was really sweet of you," I sighed.
"Of course," he smiled.
I looked at him. "Sweet and sexy," I smiled. Haylee, what are you doing to yourself? was all I thought but I brushed it off. We looked at each other. "Hi."
"Hi," he replied with a smile. "You're not so bad yourself." I looked down at me and then looked at him. "Sorry, I wasn't looking."
"Hey, that's what they're there for," I responded. Did I really just say that? I mentally face palmed myself. "Don't worry about it."
"I usually don't see anyone transfer midterm," he replied.
"I know. My parents decided to move. They didn't even ask me. It's my senior year," I sighed. "It sucks. I am adopted but they like to move a lot."
"Uhm, I could show you around if you want," he smiled. "Or you probably have a boyfriend for that. I don't know. I'm only a junior, actually."
I nodded. "No, I don't have a boyfriend," I replied. Which is the truth, because Nick and I aren't even together. "I don't."
"Really?" he asked a bit shocked. "I thought that'd be easy for you. Not that that you're easy. I mean, that it'll probably be easy for you to get a guy." I looked at him. He's cute when he's flustered. "I hope that made sense."
I smiled. "I start here tomorrow," I nodded.
"Uh, I go to this school," he nodded. I giggled at his obviousness. "Awesome." I smiled. "Well, I gotta bounce, but, uhm, I'll see you around, okay?"
He turned around and walked a few steps. "Hey, funny guy," I called, since I don't know his name. He turned and looked at me. I walked up to him. "Any idea where I can find a tour guide around here?"
"Yeah," he nodded. "I have practice, so, uhm, as soon as it's over..."
"Oh," I sighed. "Never mind, it's okay."
"No, no, no," he stopped me. "I want to. I really want to. It's just that, uhm, I've been sick and I've missed a bunch of practices." I nodded. "And, uhm, my coach would -" He stopped talking as I looked up at him and smiled. "Hey, who cares. I'm Chris, Chris Stuart."
"Haylee Jennings," I smiled shaking his hand. "Haylee, two E's."
"You stay right here," Chris smiled as we let go. "I have to get rid of these clothes. But you wait right here." I nodded. "I'll be right back."
"Okay," I smiled. "I'll stay right here. I'm not going to move."
"You can move," Chris smiled. He tripped a little going up the steps and we laughed with each other. "I'll be right back." I smiled as he disappeared. He came back. He bought us ice cream. We went to a pier that looked out into the lake. "Jake's lawyer dad meets with the superintendent of the schools," Chris explained. "And they overruled Fairview. Next thing we know, Jake's back in class and gets caught giving weed to some freshman." I chuckled. "He's an idiot." Chris looked at me. "Did you see that cigarette he has over his ear all the time?" I nodded. "Like it impresses anybody. It doesn't. It's ridiculous." We started walking. "Sorry, I kinda took over. Your turn."
"Hey, what does that taste like?" I asked.
"Like vanilla," Chris smiled as he held it.
"Yeah?" I asked and quickly pushed it to his nose.
"Really?" Chris asked as we laughed. I wiped some of it off for him. "You're fun."
"Sorry, you have it everywhere," I smiled as he wiped it off.
Chris laughed. "Do you want to try it?" he asked. I look a bite. "I wouldn't do that with any other guys at Fairview, just saying."
I smiled as we kept walking. "So, do you get in trouble for missing practice?" I asked.
"Cam will cover for me," Chris nodded. "He's my best friend." I nodded. "Well, him and Matt are my best friends." I nodded. "I really like you, Haylee."
"But you have a girlfriend?" I asked.
"No, no. I'm girl free," Chris chuckled. I looked at him. "I mean, I'm not gay or anything. Not that I have anything against gay guys." We stopped and looked at each other. "I had a girlfriend, Sharell, kinda dumped me."
I walked up to him and we shared a kiss. "Then, Sharell, is really stupid," I nodded. "If I was her, I'd never let you go."
"Oh crap," Chris sighed. He looked at his watch. "I gotta pease for dinner."
"Right now?" I asked.
"Yeah," Chris nodded. "Sorry. Can I walk you home?"
"No, I'm good," I nodded. "I'm fine."
"Okay," Chris replied. "I'll see you at school, I guess."
"Yeah, I'll see you at school," I nodded. Chris smiled and walked off. "Bye." I sighed. "I'm such a sucker." I got out my NYPD SVU PDA and looked him up and found his address. I started walking and found his house. I rang the doorbell. "Okay."
Chris opened the door. "Oh, I thought you would be -"
"I'm locked out," I nodded as I cut him off.
"How'd you know where I live?" Chris asked.
"Who is it, Chris?" asked a lady as she walked to the door.
"Hi, I'm Haylee Jennings, Mrs. Stuart," I replied. "I forgot my key and my parents are working late, so, I was just about to ask Chris if maybe I could wait here?" I looked at them. "I would go to the penthouse suite but that's all the way across town."
Mrs. Stuart looked at Chris. "She's the one I told you about," Chris replied.
"Oh, of course," Mrs. Stuart nodded. "We were just making dinner. Would you like to join us?"
Chris was nodded his head and I giggled. "Uhm, yeah," I smiled. "That would be awesome."
"Come on in," Mrs. Stuart replied.
"When did I tell you that?" Chris smiled as I walked in. He close the door. "Are your parents picking you up?"
"Yeah," I nodded. I helped them prepare for dinner and we ate. Chris took me to the living room and we sat down. "This is a nice place."
"Thank you," Chris smiled. "Do you know when your parents will be here?"
My phone beeped and I looked. Olivia had texted me telling me she was here. "Yeah, they're here," I nodded. "I'll see you tomorrow?" Chris nodded. "Bye." I walked out and got into the backseat of the SUV. "Olivia, so, I guess you're my mother and Finn is my father?"
"Adopted, of course," Olivia nodded. "We'll pick you up tomorrow and drop you off."
I got to my penthouse and walked in. "Alright," I sighed. I walked up to my place and walked inside. "Home."Nick's POV
"Hey," I replied as Haylee walked in. "How was your birthday?"
"Fun," Haylee sighed. "And a bit exhausted. The case file made no sense but I got close."
"Close?" I asked. Ever since her prom last night, me and her have been more like best friends rather than a couple. "What do you mean close?"
"Well, there's this one guy and he's just nice," Haylee nodded. "I think me and him are going to end up being a couple."
"A couple?" I asked. "Uh, wow. Uhm, congratulations."
"We just met," Haylee nodded. "I don't think it can happen that fast, can it?"
"It depends on what all the guy did," I nodded.
"Skipped practice, bought me ice cream, and told me he really likes me," Haylee nodded.
"He's into you," I nodded. "I say go for it. You deserve to be happy."
