Awaking at 7:30 to begin getting ready for breakfest at 9 a.m. I am the first one awake. I climb out of Jacob's grasp and get into the shower. I wash my hair and hear Jacob come into the bathroom. He goes to the bahroom and then talks to me.
"Did you sleep good?" Jacob asks me.
"Yeah I did. Thanks for asking." I finish taking my shower and get out. Jacob gets in right after me, but with little hot water left, his shower takes half the time mine does.
By the time he is done I have my dark wash jeans, baby blue shirt and black boots on. I begin to do my hair, which is naturally curly so as it dries it curls.
It's 8:45 and both of us are ready to go. We head down from our hotel room, racing to see who can decend the staircase the fastest. Of course, he wins being able to skip 2 steps as apposed to my one. Finally down to the ground floor, we make it to the restaurant before anybody else from our families. Waiting for 10 minutes before we're supposed to eat, Jacob's family shows up and we end up waiting for my side. 5 minutes after we were supposed to eat, my family waltzes in to the restaurant.
"Hi guys."
"Hey, I thought that we were going to meet in the lobby we've been there for 5 minutes. I almost had your mother call you." My dad says. all three sets of grandparents are behind them. We sit down and order.
"So, Jacob what do you do for a living?" On of my grandfathers asks him.
"I'm a teacher. I have almost gotten my degree. I have gone in front of a board for directors and they have accepted my approval for earning my bachlors degree in education. I hope to work in physical education and coach a little as well. I enjoyed sports in high school, so I hope that I can help others feel the same way I do about sports. I've also been offered an ahletic director position." He says and then sips his coffee.
"Thats very interesting, where is this job at? Will it fit in with Lexie's plan to go to the University of Washington right?"
"Thats actually a great question, well, when I got my degree, Lexie and I had been together for about 8 months and I knew what her plans were for college, so I planned around that. Lexie and I have had that conversation before and we came to the conclusion that if we are going to live there, we are renting a house until she graduates. After that, we will see where we go. I appriciate these questions. Anything that helps you find out who I am."
"Well, then I will ask you this, are you a christian?" My very religious, very judgemental grandmother says.
"My father is a pastor at a church in town, and just to clarify, yes I am a Christian. I have been for a very long time and that was another reason that I thought I was so lucky about Lexie when I found her. I will continue, because I know the question will come up that, yes I did wait until Lexie turned 17 1/2 until I approched her. She was of legal age of consent. Now, please just ask all other questions later, we did acually need to talk about timing and details already. Going to college, a wedding and a new job seems like a lot. What is your opinion?" He finishes with
"Very straight forward, I like that. Your father and I have talked and if you wait a year, we can do it in the middle of the summer, both of you can settle in together and everybody can be together. I realize that its not ethical or moral in our family to live with somebody of the same sex other then your spouse, but we don't have another choice. Lexie leaves for school in a month and there is no way that we can get a wedding done by then. Jacob shouldn't have to live in a different house, or pay for more rent for a year when they can save money and be together." My mother says.
My very religious, very judgemental grandmother walks out.
"Look, I know this is going to sound really bad, but if she doesn't want to approve; I dont want her here. Or at our wedding either." I say.
With everything all set, we finish breakfest and my family leaves. Jacob's mom and dad stay for a little longer, just because his dad is offciating and counseling us so we can get married in his church.
They finally leave after 15 minutes, and Jacob and I go back up to our room. We just lay in bed for an hour.
"Babe, would you mind if we didn't invite my grandmother. I hated the way she just walked out. She doesn't care about what I want."
"Look, she's your grandmother, if you don't want to invite her, don't." Jacob says.
"I love you."
"I love you too". He says. Going through the movies I happened to pack in my suitcase, Jacob and I go for our favorite. American Sniper.
