We hovered near a flap-door thing of a human nest, waiting for it to be opened. The scents of wretched humans was nearby, sweaty and disgusting. Puff gagged with distaste and I growled. As we sat there, we could hear large rustlings inside the nest, like blankets, except more rough and scratchy. Soon, footsteps came near the door. We paused waiting to strike.
A tiny head poked through the nest door, scouting around the field. It was a female, with two light-coloured head-fur stumps and a pretty blanket draped around her. Puff looked at me, and I gave the command.
We ran inside the den that surely held Comet, the little girl screeching behind us. The older people were immediately out of their nests, fumbling for a light switch. We dived under the wooden frame the people had been on. A bed?
As we hid, we could hear the human talking in low whispers in their strange language. The smell was much stronger under the bed. The only thing that kept me from yowling my pain was the soft dirt floor. I peered out and searched. Could she be in the drawers of that cabinet? No way. She's trying to get away from the humans, not snuggle into their covers- clothes, whatever they're called.
Puff drew in a breath. "I don't know if I'm correct, but I think she may be over there." Puff said. He had lost all his boldness from before- now he seemed sure I would decline his words.
"Ok, let's check." I murmured. I looked to the place he had pinpointed. A cardboard box, flapped shut, with faint scratches coming from inside. Puff flattened his ears.
"She is!"
I leapt forward to the box and clawed at the box. A loud meow erupted from it, screeching. "Twiggy, you came?" Me little sister seemed surprised. I did not reply, because the humans were slowly waking up mumbling and rustling the bed sheets. A human raised his head off of a feather-filled cloth and snuffed.
He raised his hand to reveal short stubby fingers. He sat up further, and blinked. Then he reached to the side, twisted a small silver knob, and the light came. It was a lamp. He had made the lamp turn on so he could see. This was bad. We had only managed to release one of the stuck cardboard flaps so far.
"You deal with the box," I ordered. "I'll distract the human."
Puff seemed frantic. "What will you do to stop him?"
I didn't reply. I strode forward to where the human was making his path and mewed a small tinny meow. I tried to sound like a cute little kitty-pet, with soft fur and pink bows attached to my ears, one that was the slave to all humans desires. It didn't work.
Apparently I had sounded like a wild cougar or something, because he screeched. Or it might have just been the fact that I was there. The houses window panes rattled with the wind outside. I heard the little human screech.
What else should I do in the midst of confusion and fright? Purr! I swiftly lowered my voice to a rumbling purr, soothing and calm. The human didn't seem to notice. He got up and raced to where the little girl was now wailing.
I went back to the box. Puff was still trying his best to open it, but to no avail. I leapt in to help, clawing violently at the box which hid my sister. Claws scored the box even quicker as Puff followed my lead. As the last flap shredded away, I pushed the remains in, and Comet exploded from the box.
Her fur was astoundingly clean, as if she had been grooming the entire time. She seemed to notice the eyes staring. "What?" She asked. "It's not like there's much to do in a box."
I realized what she meant. I guessed she hadn't been to worried if she had just sat there grooming. She had real trust in us. Comet pushed past. "That's the 'dad' human." She explained. "The little girl calls him that. I suppose it's like a father, a nickname young people have for them?"
We tried to sneak past, but as we crossed through the door, the dad swept Puff up off the floor, and coddled him. No, no, no! Don't let him get away with this! The other me yowled with anger. Take him back, take him!
My rage quickly boiled to the top and over, spilling the bubbles out like a flooded stream spills water. I yowl with all my might. This was for the cats I loved! For me! For my entire family who will ever exist!
I swiped a sharpened claw at the humans uncovered leg, digging deep into the skin. I curled them inward, and blood began to run down him. The human swung it's leg into the air, trying to shake me off. I hung on for a few swings, but my claws began to slip out with the blood.
Then I flew. . . . I flew through the air, whacking my head against a table. He rushed over and looked into my eyes. . . . There was no kindness there anymore. The human looked full of revenge as he lifted his foot. . . .And he stomped.
