Chapter 8: A place to call home
"Swan, Emma. Emma Swan, can you voice her please?" Regina asked anxiously to the school's secretary.
"What for honey? Did you find something of her's? If you did you can give it to me and I'll make sure it's delivered on the next class to her by her teacher" the secretary answered kindly.
"No, I'm looking for Emma. I must talk to her and I haven't seen her anywhere" Regina said desperately at the secretary's peacefulness.
"I am very sorry Miss. Mills but I have it strictly prohibited to use the mic for anything that isn't appointed to me by the principal"
"Ugh, thanks for nothing" the teen replied, turning around and walking outside the school's offices immediately. She went down the stairs to the main floor as fast as she could and there she saw Emma's friends on the exact same spot as her but at the end of the corridor. She ran, avoiding skillfully bumping in to other people, zigzagging until she reached the girls. She took a deep breath to calm down her heart's speed that had raised considerably and poked the tallest of the group on the shoulder.
The tall brunette turned around and her other two friends stared at Regina with killing eyes, but Regina didn't care. "I know you all hate me for... what ever your reasons are. But do you happen to know where is Emma?" she asked firmly.
Emilie laughed and crossed her arms. "And why should we say anything to you?"
"Oh come on, seriously? What did I ever do to you? Emma can have as many friends as she wants to and so can you and me and everyone in this world, just tell me if she came to school or not, please" Regina answered.
"No, she didn't" the pixie-haired said kindly and smiled apologetically.
"Thank you" Regina said a little bit disappointed.
She walked back to her locker and found Rose and Graham standing near. "Anything?" Graham asked.
"No"
"Call her" Rose said. "I'll take your things to the classroom and cover for you by making up a story to the teacher"
"Okay, thanks guys, you know my locker combination, I'll see you in a moment"
She walked away and got out to the school's courtyard where she took her cellphone out of her jeans' back pocket and clicked on her contact list the name 'Emma' after unlocking it. She stared at the contact's info until she finally got herself to click on the number, she put the phone to her ear. "Please, please answer" she whispered. Her phone beeped once, twice, thrice and many more times, each beep was for Regina a stab to her stomach.
Only God knew how many beeps she waited until she heard the blonde's recorded voice through the small speaker. "Hey, you have most likely tried reaching Emma Swan and for any reason such as dead phone, lost phone or ignored phone she didn't answer. Leave a message and she'll get back at you" she heard a short laugh from the recording "why am I speaking in third person?" then three short beeps and the call was out, she didn't leave a voice message.
Regina removed the phone off her ear and immediately went to her text messages, she opened her fourth newest conversation, which was Emma's, and typed with an amazing speed and skill: Please call me back or at least write me a text, I must talk to you. -R
As soon as she pressed send she ran up to class.
...
Emma rolled over in her bed for probably the thousand time in the day, she had music playing softly but loud enough to fill her whole room. She opened her eyes and found herself facing her nightstand, which had a few books, a lamp and the tray with the plates in which Eva had given her her breakfast, Emma was extremely grateful for Eva and Leopold's love and good care of her.
