His mind in a state of boredom, Perseus followed rain droplets down the window with his finger. He found it strangely amusing, pretending two droplets were racing against one another, Perseus silently cheering them on in his head, eager to find out which droplet would win.
But soon enough his entertainment was ruined as the rain got harder, making it more difficult to single out individual rain drops. He sighed and leant back in his seat, closed his eyes and listened to the muted hum of the engine. It often got quite lonely, sitting in the backseat, all alone. His manager staring off into the distance outside his own window and the driver humming along to a song unknown to Perseus.
Perseus was often reminded of how he wasn't allowed to bring friends whilst touring, because apparently they would distract Perseus from having a good show, but to him it felt like that rule stopped him from having a good time.
Suddenly the car came to a halt and everyone was piling out onto the street from houses or nearby hotels and restaurants. Perseus glanced out of his window to see a hotel building towering above him, he guessed it was at least 50 stories high.
When his eyes travelled back down to ground level, Perseus could see the hundreds of people crowding around the car and hotel building he had just been looking at. Sometimes being famous got a little tiring, but Perseus didn't mind it.
After taking a deep breath, Perseus let his manager open his car door to be greeted by the many screams and cries of people around him, calling out his name and reaching out to touch him.
Maybe Perseus over exaggerated the words 'little tiring.'
A small path was made and Perseus smiled at cameras, signed pieces of paper and greeted any fan that he could before making to the doors of the hotel, then to be wonderfully greeted by, almost, silence.
"Thank you whoever made soundproof doors." Perseus sighed, collapsing onto one of the many couches in the lobby as his manager checked them in.
"Tell me about it." Another man replied, whose voice was unfamiliar to Perseus.
Upon turning around, Perseus looked at the older man and smiled, it was always nice meeting people who weren't screaming for a photo.
"I'm Chiron." The man continued, turning the page of his newspaper as if it were made of silk, it took a few seconds for Perseus to realise that the
man-Chiron-was not actually reading the news paper, but staring off into the distance.Perseus nodded awkwardly, partially thankful when his manager returned to collect him and his things, a bed was sounding a whole lot more than nice right about now.
"Thanks Grover." Perseus sighed as the shorter guy took his backs and left, usually the two would be having a laugh about now, but Grover didn't seem to be in the mood for chatting or laughing.
Perseus sighed for what felt like the hundredth time that day, and continued to follow Grover towards the elevator, glancing back once at the odd man named Chiron, who was now completely fixated upon reading his newspaper.
Grover was waiting for him in the elevator, hit foot against the door so it wouldn't close, Perseus gave his manager a cheeky grin before stepping inside, Grover returned the grin and let the elevator doors close.
"Rough day?" Perseus asked, propping himself against one of the many mirrors that walled the elevator, Perseus couldn't get away from his own reflection.
Grover sighed and finally let go of the bags he was holding, letting them drop to the floor with a thud. "Juniper has had it hard at work."
Perseus only nodded, not fully understanding the 'had it hard' part. His job was completely different to the standard office job, therefore he had no idea what it was like to be pounded on with paperwork.Though Perseus's job had its downfalls, not being able to go out in public without being mobbed, the pressure of putting on a good show without mucking up, so in Perseus' point of view, he had it just as hard.
Grover looked like he was about to comment on Perseus' silence, his open mouth told him so, but a jolt in the elevator ride stopped him from speaking.
"What was that?" Perseus was the first to ask, noticing that the doors hadn't opened and the possibility that they were stuck in the elevator flew into his head.
"I'm sure it will start back up soon we'll just have to wait." Grover tried to come off casual and calm but Perseus could see his friends legs shaking and the wobble in his voice.
Half a minute passed and nothing had happened, then two minutes, then five and to Perseus it felt like everything had come to a standstill.
"Nothing's happened." Perseus murmured, grasping onto the pole beside him for safety precautions, though he didn't think any pole would save him if the elevator happened to come crashing down.
Again, Grover looked like he was about to say something when the elevator lights began to flicker. On the occasion that Grover got scared, which in this case was now, Grover tended to baa like a sheep, Perseus snuck a glance at his friend in terror when he heard the faint goat sounds wanting to escape Grovers lips.
Almost as if a light switch was flicked, the lights returned to their natural state and the elevator continued its journey to the top floor.
"That was strange." Perseus said in a low tone, afraid any sudden movement or sound might jinx their ride. Afterwards he began to realise a headache threatening at the back of his head, Perseus shrugged it off and decided to take a few pain killers when they reached the suite.
"I told you it would start up again." Grover nervously laughed, wiping sweat off his forehead quite noticeably.
Perseus closed his eyes, trying to relax himself, something felt off but then he laughed at himself, "We're just being stupid, it was nothing, we're safe and alive anyways, right?"
Grover sighed heavily and smiled, "Yeah."
They both laughed and continued to joke, right up until the elevator stopped for a second time that ride, though this time it had arrived at its destination.
