Hangover

Waking up next to you
is like a hangover

because when I wake up
I can't remember anything
my mind is too drowsy
I can barely move
my body is too stiff
I can't speak
not even my thoughts

So I'll just lay here
staring at the ceiling
imagining scenarios
of what happened

People say that drinking
away their problems
actually helps

But that's what hangovers are for
They make it more bitter
when you realize
that it wasn't a dream

So I lay down on this messy bed
my body feeling tired and sore
my mind still clouded with alcohol

I'm trying to picture
what could've happened
in one night

Then last nights actions
wake me up
like medicine
for this hangover

The night was long
we were careless
We were both drunk
we thought
"what's the harm?"

I stare up at this ceiling
and I realize
your lips were like alcohol
and I wanted to get drunk

You are my hangover
Full of regret,
forgetfulness,
and goodbyes

and I want to get drunk"
