Peace

These are not the things that I expected to greet me when I decided to visit my hometown. I mean, this is not the memory I had about my hometown at all. If it wouldn't be for the familiar small house I once called 'home', I would have sued the lady at the airport for giving the wrong plane ticket. But no, this is real. This is really our house.

I sigh and took a deep breath to absorb the scent of my hometown. This is definitely the place where I grew up. I recognize the small basketball court on the left side of the aisle leading to the front door. There stood one portable wooden backboard. Attached to it was a basketball hoop with an old looking net hanging around.

On the other side of the aisle is my mother's small garden. I am surprised that it still has its glow and the plants are very much alive. Looks like Mrs. Riverwood really took care of it while I'm away. I have to remind myself to thank her for that.

I took a deep breath and prepare myself to enter my old home. It takes me great courage to come back here. This place brings back a lot of memories; good and bad memories. This cream colored, two-story house in front of me used to be my whole world. I never thought that in a blink of an eye everything would change.

I force my feet to take a step one after another, walking through the aisle made of smooth looking rocks leading to the front door. I reach for the keys from my rectangular 4" x 6" purse. After pulling the shiny silver key out of my purse, I thrust it into the key hole, twisted clockwise, and then push the white painted wooden door open.

Peeking at the image of the interior of the house, I almost believed that I travelled back in time. It may seem like it's impossible but everything is exactly where they were supposed to be 6 years ago. It's like time didn't even passed by; like a standstill.

I entered the house while dragging my two suitcases with me. I tried to make myself comfortable, although it's a bit hard, for I am to have my two month vacation here. After fulfilling my dream of becoming a chef and finding the job that I really wanted, this will be the first time I'll have my vacation.

Closing the door behind me and making sure it's locked and secured, I then made my way upstairs to my old bedroom. Pushing my bedroom door open, I giggled, remembering how dad forbids every bedroom door in this house to have a lock. He said he would be comfortable knowing that he could always check on us anytime he wants.

Ever since my mom died in a car accident, dad personally removed every lock attached to our bedroom doors and installed a spring on its top so it will automatically close. He said he will feel at ease knowing we cannot hide anything from him beyond our closed and no-lock bedroom doors.

Going back to reality, I place my suitcases near my closet which stands on the left side of the door. I made my way to my window, sliding the curtains to each side and giving me a full view of the neighborhood. Looking up, I notice that Mother Nature had already painted the sky with a few shades of orange. This just means that the sun is about to set. This means I have to get ready for bed.

Moving towards one of my suitcases, I search for an oversized, plain, faded blue T-shirt and my gray sweatpants. As I found them, I headed to my En suite bathroom and changed out of my travel clothes.

By the time I was out of the bathroom, my room was already dark since there's no more sunlight that shone from the window. Adjusting to the light that the moon is providing me, I climb to my twin sized bed. Unfolding the neatly folded duvet, I insert myself under it and covered my body.

I was staring at the unseen ceiling, due to darkness; I then remembered that I haven't had my dinner. Oh well, it doesn't seem to bother me since I ate while I was on the plane on my way here.

My eyes began to feel heavy, implying that I really need to get some rest. Travelling from one place to another really drains my energy. I turned my body to my right, hugging one of my soft pillows, and finally letting sleep overtake me.
