It was a little past 8:00 am. And as usual I'm walking to the campus coffee shop before I have class at 9. Most mornings I like to get there in time to finish a coffee and read or study a little before class.
I can see the coffee shop in the distance but something else catches my eye. One of my best friends running towards me frantically.
"Laur! Hey can I borrow your notes for calculus? We have that test today and I totally forgot. I knew you would be on your way to get coffee so I came to find you." Normani says out of breath.
"Sure. Did you want to just come to the coffee shop with me and I'll go over it with you?" I ask her curiously.
"Yeah ok cool lets go." She says still trying to catch her breath.
We turn and make our way to the coffee shop making pointless conversation. "Yeah I stopped talking to him. We were just casually making out and I felt him reach down to grab my foot. At first I was like um well ok then. But then once he slid my shoe off and broke the kiss to kiss my foot... I was out of there as fast as hell." Normani explains as she reaches for the door handle and walks in first. I can't help the laughter that escapes at the thought of that happening to her. I shake my head while cracking up and walking through the doors.
Once I'm in I immediately feel different. Rather than my usual mornings here something feels odd. It's the type of feeling you get when you can feel when someone is staring at you. So I look around at the tables and no one is looking. I look to the front counter and I'm met with a brunette staring at me. I look away and feel a little awkward before glancing back up to see that her gaze hasn't left from staring at me. She just smirks at the sight of my awkwardness and looks away to retreat back to what she was previously doing.
"What's with you?" Normani asks me snapping me out of my thoughts. "You look like you've just ran into your idol or something." She continues as we walk to the cashier at the counter.
"Oh, nothing I'm just still half asleep. Sorry." I try to justify myself.
Normani just nods and orders her coffee and muffin. After she pays, she steps aside to wait for her order.
"Hi how can I help you?" The young blonde says.
"Can I have a medium latte and a blueberry donut please?" I get my usual order that I have every morning and pay her before stepping aside to wait.
Normani's order is brought out first and she goes to get us a table in the corner. I'm fidgeting with the straps of my book bag as I stand there and wait. I hear my order being called so I walk a couple steps to the counter to retrieve it.
I'm met with the same girl who was staring at me when I first walked in. And I'm nervous for some reason. I realize I was staring at her for a good couple seconds so I nervously look away and go to grab my order as she places it on the counter. I reach for it a tad bit to early and my fingers brush against hers. I feel something rush through my body and my heart begins to beat faster. I quickly try and shake any and all thoughts that are running through my mind and look up to give the girl a soft smile before I quickly turn away and walk back to Normani. I feel like the girls eyes are still on me. I glance over my shoulder and sure enough they are. She gives me another one of her smirks before returning to work.
I sit down across from Normani and try to clear my head so she doesn't question me. I reach into my bag to retrieve my notes and pull them out to begin studying. Well try studying. I can't shake my thoughts of the girl behind the counter. Yeah she's clearly beautiful. Anyone would be able to tell you that. But why was she staring at me like that? Does she do that to everyone? Why can't I stop thinking about her? This is so confusing.
I reach for my cup to take a sip of it and I see small writing towards the top.
Gorgeous girl with the infectious laugh.
There is a small heart and the letter C after it. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion as I reread it. Who wrote that? I look up to see the brunette already looking at me. She gives me a wink then returns to work. It couldn't be her. Could it?
After Normani and I finish our coffees and finish studying it's about 8:50. We decide to pack our stuff up considering we have to be at class at 9. I'm feeling pretty confident about the test. I get pretty good grades and usually do well on tests so I'm not to nervous. Well that is until I lock eyes with the gorgeous brunette before stepping out of the coffee shop.
It's safe to say I couldn't focus on that test. All my thoughts were consumed by the girl at the coffee shop. But why? I've never had these feelings for anyone. I've never even been in a relationship. This is all so different.
My next class dragged on until I had sociology. I took a seat in the middle of the room like always and began to take out the materials needed. Once I had everything settled, I awaited the arrival of my professor. My gaze shifted from my papers to the door when I saw someone entering. Expecting it to be my professor I looked up right away but was surprised when I saw the girl from the coffee shop.
She looked as confident as she did this morning as she tried to decide where to sit. On her way to the seat that she found off to my right, she met my gaze and smiled. The same amazing smile I saw all morning. She never shifted her gaze away from mine until she sat. She was a few rows ahead of mine so her back was facing me now which was probably a good thing because this girl makes me all jittery and nervous.
I've never seen this girl around here and I would know if I have. So she must be new. I wonder why she came in the middle of the semester. Why can't I stop thinking about her?? This is so frustrating.
I don't even realize how much time has passed with my thoughts consumed by the girl a few rows ahead. I want to talk to her but what would I even say? Her compliment written on my coffee cup this morning deserved a thanks.
As my professor went on teaching and we continued to take notes it finally came nearer to the time of our departure. I was trying to muster up the courage to talk to this girl when class let out, but before I knew it she was out the door. I frowned slightly and gathered my things to proceed to my dorm.
Maybe I will see her again tomorrow.

This idea for a story just randomly came to me one day so I'm going to give it a try. I already have the next few chapters written out so it won't be long for the next update. Hope you like it!
