BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! It's 6 am on a Saturday. Why exactly is my alarm for school going off? I get up and shut it off and get changed into my running clothes and get my phone and headphones and go downstairs.
"You're up early this morning." I heard my mom say as I walked into the kitchen.
"Yeah. I forget to shut my alarm off last night so I thought I'd go for a run." I told her as I grabbed a bottle of water and put my headphones in.
"That's a great idea lacey just be careful."
I didn't even respond as I left the house and started my run.

I ran to the end of my playlist and then jogged home. I opened the door to hear my mom and step dad yelling at each other and I blew up.
"Okay seriously if you guys are so freaking unhappy just get a dang divorce already I've had enough of you guys arguing!!!"
After saying that I ran to my room got my clothes and went to the bathroom to talk a shower. After my shower I went back downstairs and saw my loving family sitting at the table waiting for me.
"Lacey sit down please we need to talk." my mom said looking kind of upset.
"Okay what now?" I asked them sitting down.
"We really need you to drop your attitude lacey. You've had a very bad one lately and it needs to stop so we are grounding you for a week." My step dad said looking very frustrated.
I was so shocked that I didn't even say anything I just got up and walked back to my room.

Ten minutes later I hear a knocking at my door.
"Come in!" I yell.
"Hey sis." my big brother Ayden says as he crosses my room to my bed.
"Hey Ayden what's up?" I ask.
"Uh nothing really I just wanted to talk about something."
"Okay what is it?"
"Well uh I'm moving out."
I sat there unable to say anything to my brother whose always had my back with this stuff but now he is leaving me to suffer alone.
"What? Why? When? How could you do this?"
"Look lace, it's not what you think. I'd stay if I could except I can't. The step demon wants me to go into the army and I have no choice against it so I'm leaving in three days."
I don't even know what to think anymore. I was so shocked and mad that I got up and ran downstairs and past my parents yelling at me to get back here and out the door. I ran all the way to my safe place. The town park. I went to the swings and started swinging until I hear footsteps.
"Is this seat taken?" a voice I couldn't recognize asked me.
"Uh no?" I said but it came out more as a question than a statement.
"You probably think I'm some creep but I go to school with you. I'm a senior. I see you hanging out with Ayden sometimes."
"Uh yeah he's my older brother. I'm a junior."
"Well I'm Shane Ayden's friend."
"Oh! I remember you. But uh you and Ayden aren't friends anymore I know that much, but I don't know why."
"That would be because his ex girlfriend cheated on him with me but in my defense I didn't know they were dating."
"Oh. Well what are you doing out here at like 11 at night Shane?"
"I could ask you the same thing. Its Lacey right?"
"Yes it's Lacey. And I'm out here because I got some terrible news and this is my safe place. What's your excuse?"
"My parents are fighting. And this was the first place I saw when I walked out."
"Well I'm sorry about your parents. Do they fight a lot?"
"They're divorced. My dad wants me to live with him but my mom doesn't want me to."
"Who do you want to live with?"
"Neither. I'm a senior and almost 18. I would love to live on my own."
"Well I'm sorry about that. My mom and my step dad fight all the time and my brother is going into the army in three days."
"I'm so sorry Lacey."
"It's fine. People leave. It's what they do." I said looking at him for the first time since he sat down.
