Alexandria Smith was tired. Mostly tired of how her dad acted around the neighbors especially their neighbors, the Evans's.
"I mean, they're nice people. I don't see why my dad has to complain about everything they do!" I was talking to my best friend, Amy.
"Well, maybe there's a history between them." Amy said.
I gave her the Look and we continued folding laundry. Little did I know how right my BFF turned out to be.

"What about this?" Amy held up a floor length dress in the color purple.
"No, too purple." I said. We were trying on dresses at Debs at the mall hoping to find one to wear to the Homecoming dance that would be coming up when school started back up in September. It was the biggest dance of the year and also the last one since we would be seniors in the fall.
"How about this one?" this time Amy held up a dress that was a lighter shade of purple.
"No!"
"Ok then!"
We continued to look when I spotted a light blue dress that came down to my knees. Around the waist were sparkles and it was strapless. My eyes immeadeatly lit up.
"Ooh! What about this one?" I said holding it up to me and spinning around.
"Perfect! You have to get it!" she said.
"Duh! I'm not going to let my perfect dress just sit here and gather dust!"
When we got home, I hang up my dress, sit there and stare at it.
"What are you doing?" my youngest sister, April asked. She was looking at me looking at the dress.
"Just thinking." I said. When I looked at the dress I felt that it brought hope and all that stuff most people don't believe in anymore.

After dinner that night, I climbed through my window and sat on the roof. I have one of those windows that leads onto the roof of the house. It's my favorite place to sit, do homework, write in my journal, and just think about things. I like to think because its relaxing. Especially after a hard day.
After a while I found myself thinking about the feud between my dad and Mr.Evans. I started thinking of all the reasons why my dad would ever hate him. Gosh, he never held a grudge or hated anybody in all his life. Why now? All I knew about Mr.Evans was that he liked to fish a lot and he was really good at golf. Maybe that was it. I mean my dad is pretty competitive when it comes to hunting or fishing. My thoughts were interrupted by my oldest sister, Diane.
"Hey. Watcha doin out here?"
I sighed. "Just thinking."
"Sometimes you just have to take time to slow down and think about stuff. Mind if I join you?" she asked.
"Nope."
So we sat there awhile and then it was time to go back inside.

The next day Amy and I were going to a movie at the drive in in town. All this week they were playing all those old romantic movies. Since neither of us has a boyfriend, we usally go together. We call it Girls Week. Every time the drive in is playing those old romantic movies, we go every day. We both adore old romantic movies especially Gone With The Wind. That's our favorite and they are gonna play it on Friday. I hear the doorbell ring. It's Amy.
"Hey" she says.
"Hey," I say. "You ready to hit the road?"
"Oh yeah! Drive in here we come!" she gives a little whoop and I join her. Then we get in Amy's truck and begin the drive to town.
***
"That was awesome!" I say as we're driving back. "I can't wait till tomorrow!"
"I know right!!" she says.
That night I go to sleep peacefully and dream I'm in a black and white romance movie.
