I walked through the empty hallways of my high school kicking past the left over test papers and pencils left by students, what a typical Friday afternoon. I rolled my eyes when I noticed some pencil graffiti on the water fountain. I get that people here hate school but no need to take it out on the water fountain. I hunch my backpack up so it would prevent it from slipping of my tiny shoulders. My head snaps up when I hear a toilet flush from the distance. Why is anybody here? Everybody left already? Oh god I need to leave now.
I quickly hurried my steps a little faster trying to reach the front doors of the school and onto the fresh air. I opened the hard doors and sighed in relief. I slouched against the wall trying regain my posture.
I try to walk a little faster, but the hot Australian wears me out immediately. I keep walking home with my backpack slouching by my side, not bothering to straighten my back. Having my car in the shop during summer is a bad idea. Walking home is such a drag and having random guys cat call me in the street is no fun and embarrassing.
I finally reach the doors of my house, internally screaming in victory. I trudge my steps a little faster and open the door. The cold air conditioning hitting my body finally helped me feel way better than I was before.
My mom being at work and Frankie off to some friends house, left the house all to myself. I go upstairs to my room and change out of my dirty school clothes into something much more comfy. I jump onto my bed and start watching Dan and Phil videos for the rest of my Friday afternoon.
A few hours later after roaming on the internet for a while, I hear a door slam. I decided that it was my mom probably in one of her moods and decided it was best to stay in my room, not wanting to be yelled at for any random reason. A few minutes later I hear my mothers door being slammed shut and something heavy being dropped. I flinch at the harsh sound and lock my door.
She's been drinking
This had always happened when my mother got pissed. She drank until all feelings were gone and woke up with a heavy hangover and all was forgotten. It was a terrible cycle that happened more than often. I shook my head and plugged my head phones in drowning all screams and crashes.

I woke up to the sun pouring into my room and my laptop by my feet. I stretch my arms ungracefully hitting the wall behind me. I swing my legs over my comfy bed and head downstairs. Thankfully my mother was not awake yet so I would not have to deal with her hangover and alcohol breath. I quickly made myself some pancakes and ate them all quickly wanting to get out of the house as soon as possible. I run upstairs to change into something more socially acceptable and brush my teeth as well. I throw on some black shorts with a plain white t-shirt and some grey vans, grab my phone and run out of the house.
I walked a couple of blocks until I find a vintage music store across the block. I walked towards the store and open when the the bell above me rings and a girl, who looked to be the age of 16 or 17 greets me politely. I say 'hi' back when a certain album catches my eyes. I pick up the new cd and admire it. Its been a few months since this came out. It was One Directions latest album 'Made In The A.M." and I've been waiting months to get my hands on this. Unfortunately almost any music store near me was really late into delivering music cd into their inventory so it was typical to wait a few months until they finally came.
I was walking towards the counter to buy the cd when a tall guy bumped into me. I looked back to see that it was some tall blonde guy
I was about to apologize when he beat me to it.
"I'm so sorry." he apologized, scanning my body up and down. I stiffened at this and looked the other way.
"Its fine." I replied curtly heading towards the counter, but then he pulled my wrist back.
"What's your name?" he asked, his blue eyes shining.
"Katheryn." I lied
"Well, hey Katheryn." God he was so awkward. It was kinda cute, but I can't trust him yet.
"I've got to get going," I said "but whats your name?"
"Luke" he said, his beautiful eyes staring back at my boring brown ones. He looked so innocent.
"See you later Luke." I said. Turning my back, I paid for my cd and turned back to see Luke staring at me. He quickly averted his gaze into the random album that was next him. I stifle a laugh and head outside of the store.
There was a part of feeling guilty about lying to him. But another part telling me it was better that way. Either way I'd never see him again.

I finally updated this book and feel super excited about this. In the next chapter you'll find out why Ari lies to Luke. I really hope you enjoyed this chapter!!!
