You know what you don't realise?
How much someone means to you.
Until the person you talk to is gone,
You don't realise how much you rely on them.
For moral support
For help
Just to know that someone's right around the corner
There to help
To hold
Someone who actually wants to spend time...
With you.
You don't realise this, until one day
Something happens.
And you don't realise it at first.
It starts with an innocent question
One that they know won't cause you to panic
Because they know you so, so well.
But after the question comes the inevitable.
They're moving
Or leaving
Or breaking up with you
Or taking a break
Or they need some space
Or they "just can't take it anymore".
And you smile.
It isn't a fake smile,
Its genuine.
But it isn't happy.
It's a tiny, sad smile.
The kind that they know by now means
"I've had my heart broken too many times before
"To think that this wasn't going to happen."
You smile.
And you let them go.
Because you aren't someone to keep someone
Not against their will.
If they stay, let them.
If they go, it was their own choice.
But darling, here's what you don't realise.
It's going to hurt.
You thought ending relationships was hard
How much harder did it have to be
On that friend you began not to answer
As soon as you thought you were going to be happy?
They hadn't heard from you in weeks.
And now, you're left alone.
Because you know what?
When you don't stop and think about it,
You don't realise how attatched you've become to one person
And when they leave...
Well, where does that leave you?
