Reckoning the events that have taken place lately, it's harder for me to feel comfortable when I'm away from home. Nicole also noticed me acting somehow different, but she didn't mention it too much. At the moment, I wasn't really interested in this hanging around in the city. But I did it for Nicole, giving my best not to show anything out. My only condition was to be home before the dark.
Luckily there was no problems with that. Soon Nicole's mum called her to come back home to study for school the next day. So, I got home without any incidents. And the day had passed completely normally. If you can count Shane as 'normal'. I still couldn't be very sure about if he was a savannian or not.
Though, this morning at Mist's Dining Place wasn't the only time we saw him that day. Later we passed a street in the lonlier part at the city's edge. Maybe Nicole planned it, I'm not sure. But this was the street where Night Pack club was. And just coincidentally we happened to see Shane enter this place. I don't think he saw us.
Sadly it appeared that the next day at school might not go as well. Only a little after arriving, I noticed that Jake was back at school. And the only thing I could do, was to try to avoid him.
Which wasn't as easy as I had hoped, when our biology teacher randomly picked from year eleven and twelve students, to put together groups for a project. And surprise surprise! Me, Jake and some other girl were put together. I didn't start panicking in front of the class, but I wasn't far from it.
When Jake heard we would be together, he also looked surprised. He also seemed somehow hesitant when he looked at me. Whatever thoughts he had in his mind. But as for me, hundreds of thoughts about how to skip school or fake a disease crossed my mind. Though at the same time, I knew it couldn't be my escape. So I just muttered something to myself about how the teacher is sending me directly to my death.
After class, instead of discussing the project with Jake, I headed home. Not exactly running, but as fast as I could. Who cares about what mark I'm gonna get! I choose to live.
"Selina, you know we have to talk."
But of course he followed me. Is school really that important to him?
"I don't want to," I yelled back, adding some speed, so now I was almost running. But I knew he would be faster than me. Jake stepped in front of me, blocking my way. I swallowed and took a step back.
"Oh, c'mon. I'm not going to attack you."
"I wouldn't be very sure about that," I argued back, searching for a way out.
"I've got bigger problems at the moment. I'm not going to kill anyone." He sounded somewhat annoyed.
"Did you arrange this?" I demanded.
"What?"
"That we have to work together?"
"No," he shook his head. "I would have chosen better partners."
Should I be taking this as an insult? Wait, this was lame thing to worry about at the moment. He killed people.
"I can do my part of the project. Probably most of it. But I can't fill your part."
"Since when do you care about me?" Despite of his soft tone, mine was still hostile.
"I'm only trying to help. Is this prohibited?"
He? Help me? "Thanks, but I don't need your help," I said with a fake politeness.
"It will be an important mark this year." What is he trying to achieve? Hoping to get me into the woods to finish me off for once? Because yes, the point of our project was to wonder around in the nature. Which meant forest.
