I live in a small town in pretty much middle of nowhere West Virginia and there is a story well I guess at this point you could call it a legend about a certain stretch of woods near my town. We were always told as kids to never go near what we called whisper woods because there was a legend going around that on windy nights if you stand near the woods you could hear whispers inside. There was supposedly a group of people who tested this "legend" about 30 years ago but they were never found again after the night they entered the woods a huge manhunt was called to find them and they never found anything not even bones. Now it's become a game people challenging each other to enter the woods and "survive" but no one actually believes anyone anymore. One night about 3 months ago my friend and I were hanging out at his house when he made me a bet "spend at least one hour inside the woods and I'll give you $100" he said how could you not take him up on it an easy $100 dollars for just standing in the woods for an hour it seemed like a no brainer if only I knew what was actually gonna happen I never would've taken that bet then. He drove us to our destination stopped the car about 20 feet away and said "I'll wait here for you just remember if you don't come back I keep my hundred" "yea thanks man" I replied got out of the car and headed into the forest. It was a windy night as well so it was definitely the best night to test this theory and I didn't really hear anything for about 20 minutes then on one gist of wind that's when I heard them....the whispers. It was true I couldn't believe what I was hearing all the voices slowly calling out to me beckoning me to travel deeper and at first I tried to ignore them but after awhile I felt like I needed to listen to them and follow just out of curiosity. I turned on my flashlight on my phone and started walking deeper into the forest the voices getting louder at every step. I walked for about 10 minutes listening to the voices getting louder and louder until I saw where they were coming from the source was terrifying. I had started hearing cracking and tearing so I slowed down and hunkered behind a tree and leaned next to it to see what it was and there hunched over was a pale white creature tearing a deer carcass apart. I couldn't see much about it with only the light from the moon shining on it but it looked massive long skinny pretty much bone arms long super skinny legs little to no grey hair on its head with unnatural strength it was literally tearing the whole legs off the deer in one swift pull. I wanted to run no I needed to run the whispers were coming from that thing because besides the cracking all I heard was the voices I needed to get away but the first step I took I broke a twig. The thing turned very fast fixating its gaze on me it had pure black soulless eyes and it's mouth was wide open showing blood stained jagged and shattered teeth it growled a deep guttural growl and started slowly moving towards me so I booked it. I ran through the trees as fast as possible trying not to trip at one point I turned around to see that thing was right behind me moving so fast that I barely made it to the edge of the woods without it touching me. Once I made it out I ran to my friends car got in and yelled at him to drive I didn't want to be there any longer. It's been 3 months since that night and I looked up the name of that beast apperantly it's called a wendigo able to mimic human voices to lure prey they aren't pretty either. But the worst part about all of this is that ever since that night if I'm outside at all and there is alot of winds even though I have since moved three states away I still hear the whispers calling me back wanting me to return.
