Chapter 1

Music. It was both a lost and found art. It had a different meaning to each and everyone that listened. To me, it was loosing myself in what I was playing. Music is my way of escaping. Escaping from a world full of poverty and death, lose and heartbreak, the possible and impossible. Everyday I hid away behind the walls of the music room, far away from the classrooms and their teachers. It was a place I could go to be alone in the small and crowded town of Beacon Hills. Where I didn't need to be judged by my fellow students. Where creating sounds from a instrument wasn't judged by a popularity contest, but by pure and raw talent. So today was no different as I strummed lightly across the cello's strings, listening as the soft noise filled the room drowning out the metronomes ticking. Not to be bothered by another living soul until I was finished practicing. I continue to play for minutes on end, indulged and lost in my work. But when I strike the wrong chord its not me who's at fault. The sudden sound of banging cuts me off, replacing my sweet serenade with the clumping of shoes against ground. Frustrated and thrown off I try to pick back up where I left off in the song but its no use as the commotion from the hall grows louder by the second. Infuriated, I set the instrument down beside the chair and rush out into the hall for answers. I'm met with a group of guys. Jocks, athletes whatever they liked to be called. I had seen these faces trudging around the school but I had never spoken one word to any of them. I knew their names but they would never seem bothered enough to learn mine.

"Hey, do you guys mind." I ask. As the door clicked shut behind me, the boys look up from their game of basketball for only a second but quickly return their gaze back to the group when they realize its nothing important. All except for one. The boy out in front, the leader I assumed held his green, piercing eyes up to glare at me. Derek Hale. The basketball still held tightly in his grip. As always he looked extremely handsome in his ripped jeans, green plaid shirt with a grey tank top underneath and black Nike shoes. His hair perfectly messy. Not that any of that mattered to me. "I'm trying to practice." I explain when all the faces turn to me. The group lets out a chorus of oh's, mocking me.

"How do you know we're not trying to practice here too?" The leader says with a laughing tone.

"No see I was practicing in the music room and I'm pretty sure basketball practice takes place in the gym." I give the attitude right back to him.

"Well I'm pretty sure basketball practice takes places where ever you have a basketball." His friends laugh encouraging him to continue. Derek moves away from the group bouncing the basketball between his feet until he's only inches away from me. "See." He smirks and I roll my eyes. It was pointless to sit hear and try to reason with these guys in the first place. Unless I was important they weren't even going to take me serious. Still staring at the smile spread across his face, I decide to get the last laugh. Turning my back on him, I slowly walk back to the doors savoring every second of triumph I had over their petty games.

"Hey, hold on. Hold on." His deep voice stops me in my tracks. I was intrigued to hear his explanation or possible apology. "If you can get the ball from me maybe I'll stop." I can't help but be intrigued by his challenge. He slowly starts bouncing the ball at his side. "It'll be easy." He says never breaking eye contact with me as he continues to hit the ball of the ground. Without a hint of warning I lurch forward, reaching for the basketball but just when it's in my reach he steps back holding it out in front of me. I try again but he easily dodges my attempt and starts to circle around me, making it impossible to catch him. I can feel myself growing angrier every time he taunts me only to fall for the bait again. Eventually he's going to fast for me to keep the ball in sight. Feeling even worse then when I came out here I quietly walk back to the music room, the one place they couldn't bother me. I bet he was so distracted by trying to show me up, he never even noticed my departure from the crowded hallway. But the bouncing stops before I can disappear behind the double doors.

"Come on lover boy." One of his friends shout as footsteps soon follow, fading into the background. Assuming he left with them I pick back up where I left off in the song. To focused in practicing I don't even notice Derek come into the room until he speaks.

"Sorry about that." He sounds sincere but still a little cocky. I look up to see him standing at the door, basketball still in hand.

"Whatever." I mutter before turning back to my instrument. To my surprise he doesn't leave but continues on with a question.

"Hey, what's your name?" He asks and at first I don't answer taken back by what he said. Why did he want to know my name? He clearly only saw me as a punch line to another joke he could make to his friends. So I wasn't going to give up information that easily.

"I'm trying to practice if you haven't noticed." I snap at him hoping he'd take that as his cue to leave.

"Ok, I'll just leave you alone then." He says and I nod turning back to the sheet music. But of course nothing is ever that easy."After you tell me your name." He adds. This guy was unbelievable persistent.

"Alright I'll tell you my name. If you can play one instrument in this room." I leaning back in my seat with amusement plastered across my face as he looks around the room.

"One?" He asks pointing to the shelf of numerous instruments.

"Just one." I reassure him.

"Anything?" He asks and I roll my eyes as he heads to the back of the room. I look back to see him pick something up and walk back to where I was sitting. He pulls the instrument out from behind his back to reveal its a triangle. He strikes the metal and a short ding rings out through the room. I can't help but smile back at him for this.

"My names Paige." I finally admit looking away. "Now please go so I can practice." I wanted my voice to sound serious but it hardly comes out intimidating.

"My names Der-" He tries to introduce himself but I cut him off.

"I know who you are." I say. Everyone knew who Derek Hale was in this school and if you didn't, you would. His family was known quite well in this town but no one ever seemed to see them. They lived on the outskirts of town in a two story house built somewhere far off in the middle of the woods. Being deep in thought, Derek finally takes that as his time to go. He turns on his heel and walks out of the room without looking back. I should have been happy he was finally gone but the truth was I really didn't want him to leave now.

After watching last nights episode of Teen Wolf I was so touched by Derek and Paige's relationship and I wanted to write about what could have happened that they didn't show or Peter didn't include in his narrating. This might seem really close to what happened in the first scene but I promise it will get more original. I just had to show how they meet. This wont be a long story just so you guys know. Hope you like/comment your feedback on this. Thanks :)
