Later that week, while Josh was not yet back to school, I went to another doctor's appointment with Cally. The nearer and nearer I got to my due date, the more the reality of the situation began to sink in. I was going to have to give birth sometime, to twins nonetheless, and the very idea of going through that... process... terrified me.

As a result, Cally and I decided to sign up for a birthing class at the local hospital. With such a high population of pregnant teens, the class ended up being composed of our fellow classmates, most of whom brought their husbands along. While typically birthing classes started when the mother was seven months, with Cally at about six and I myself at about five, because of the high number of teens wanting to take classes, the hospital allowed mothers as early as four months to participate so everyone would get a turn. Cally and I nervously entered the class, both of us appearing single, while in actuality Josh was at home still recovering from his stint in rehab and Keon working.

"Wow, I can't believe we are at a Lamaze class when we are only seventeen," breathed Cally as we sat against a wall, waiting for the class to start. Around us, couples chatted and the instructor thumbed through her notes, all while Cally and I awkwardly sat against the walls, holding our stomachs.

"Yeah, I know it's pretty crazy. I never would have expected myself to be a pregnant teenager, you know?" I said. Cally smirked.

"Well it's not exactly your choice, now is it? You wanted to go to college. A lot of people wanted to go to college, but the government just gave them a big eff you" said Cally, staring off darkly. She sighed, obviously moody, and bit her lip while nervously looking out at the couples across the room. I didn't understand what was up with her. On the ride to the class, she was acting just fine.

I sighed, hating that I had to have this conversation again. Why did everyone think I was never going to college? Yes, the twins were going to be a handful, but not only was I determined to go to school, but I had both a husband and a boyfriend to help me take care of them. It was times like these I wished my mother was around. Even when everyone else in the world wanted to crap on my dreams, she would be the first to tell me to not listen to them. Knowing her, I would get back from this class and tell her everything, only to have her whip me up a bowl of banana ice cream from our rations to make me feel better.

Now feeling moody myself, I didn't feel much like talking until the class started. But when the teacher called for everyone to take a seat in the circle, I took a forceful sigh, trying to push the thoughts of a moody Cally, college, and my mother out of my mind. Food for thought for later.

"Hello everyone! My name is Mrs. Carol. Let's just start off today by telling a bit about ourselves," said Mrs. Carol. She was a woman a lot younger than my mother, yet older than me, probably in her early twenties, making her around eighteen or seventeen when the plague hit. Her curly red-brown hair hung in spirals around her face, and her hazel eyes had dimples underneath them. She had one of those motherly faces, which worked out nicely since she too was pregnant.

"My name is Annie Carol and I will be your Lamaze instructor. Before my mother passed away, she started letting me go her Lamaze classes that she taught while pregnant with my baby brother, who I have now adopted as my son about a six months ago. My husband was not assigned to me like many of you, but we weren't honestly planning on getting married until I finished college, but now here I am. Anywho, I am so excited to teach this class and keep my mother's work alive! I'm also super duper excited to get to know all of you! So how about this, let's go around the room and say our name, age, where we are in our pregnancies, and one fun fact about ourselves. How about you go first Carly."

Annie looked to her right and a dark haired girl named Carly started talking. Still, I couldn't keep my eyes off Annie. I hadn't seen such a happy person since the plague hit in quite some time. Everything people said made her laugh or smile, and she even began joking with the more nervous looking mothers-to-be to make them comfortable. I smiled, so happy I could get such a nice instructor. Finally, it was my turn.

"Oh, hi um. My name's Adira Stevenson... Oh, wait, I mean Fauxgard. Still not used to that.... Anyway, um, I'm seventeen years old and I'm five months pregnant with twins. Fun fact? Well um... I guess a fun fact is I like to read a lot," I said nervously. Packs of eyes looked me over, some eyes widening when I mentioned the thing about the twins. Blushing, I looked down at my sock clad feet, wishing for the moment to be over. I hated public speaking so damn much.

"Wow that's awesome, Adira! I love to read too. We'll have to share some book recommendations after class," piped Annie. I looked up and met her eyes, seeing genuine interest mixed in with a pretty inviting hazel color. I smiled back, nervously, feeling calmer already. Honestly, I would probably take her up on her offer. While not very social, Annie's positive energy was exactly what I needed right now, especially with all the drama going on at home. Next, it was Cally's turn.

"Oh hey guys I'm Cally Atwood, previously Cally Gerardson but screw my ex," said Cally brazenly, making a few of the single girls in the room chuckle. Cally always knew how to work a room, as she was the opposite in me in so many ways. She spoke openly, one hand playing with her hair as another rested on her belly, and her eyes sparkled with excitement as unlike me, she loved attention
"I'm seventeen years old and about six months pregnant. I'm having a girl, so she's definitely going to be Adira's twins' best friend. Fun fact about me? Well, I'm pretty sure I'm a lesbian. That's fun, right?!"

Wait wait wait.... what?
