The Tornado

My footsteps echoed loudly off the marble floors as I pressed my hands against the walls of the dark, deserted hallway.  A blinding blue light took up my vision causing me to raise my hands to my eyes.

"Where are you going?" I whispered softly to the blue glow.

"Follow me." The blue light giggled, resembling the voice of an energetic toddler.

I laughed playfully as I ran after it.

"Why do you want me to follow you?" I questioned.

The blue light stopped, it formed into the silhouette of a toddler.

"It's time Ava." It spoke softer than the wind.  A blood-curdling cry of many voices came from within the blue light.  I crouched into a ball, my hands pressing against my ears to block the piercing yelps.

The light began panting loudly.

"I will only say this once:

On the tip of a cliff, two can not stand.  Their last moments will be spent hand in hand.

Sacrifices will be made to save the dreams of those who whisper by the streams.

Death will always result in the end,

Someone's last ounce of blood is too be shed."

The blue light began to pounce around the narrow walls violently before it turned in my direction, slamming against my chest.  A burning sensation rippled through my body as I collapsed to the floor and I leaped up.

Sweat poured down my face  as I panted loudly.  Another crazy dream, what the hell do they mean?

I took a sip of the glass of water on my nightstand.  I swiped the back of my hand across my forehead.

The last thing I saw before I woke up was Chresanto.  I definitely needed to speak with him.

The next day, as I was walking to my next period, I spotted Chresanto.  His hands were tucked into the pockets of his school hoodie.

He glanced at me with wide eyes, showed off a polite smile and he suddenly took a sharp turn.

"Was he avoiding me?" I thought to myself.

I began to run after him, I nearly slipped as I spun around the corner.

"Chresanto wait!" I exclaimed

He came to a halt and turned to me.

"Hi Ava, look I really need to get going." He explained, pushing me softly to the side.  His eyes were wild with excitement.

"I don't care!" I snapped at him.

I gripped his jacket collar and slammed him into the green lockers.  The metal made a ringing noise as his back connected to it.

"You know something about that dream I had and you're not telling me." I shouted.  He took my hands and shoved them away.

"I don't know what you're talking about." He snapped trying to get me out of the way.

I slid my body in his path once again.

"Chresanto, you do!

I've been having these dreams about you and I know you've been experiencing the same thing.  Please..."

I pleaded softly, trying to calm him down.

He exhaled as he stared down at me with his soft caramel eyes.

He took a hold of my hand and led me into a tiny supply closet.  It was lit dimly by a bulb that flickered continuously.

Chresanto and I were pressed tightly together, my head pressed against his chest.  I could hear the rapid beating of his heart.

He brought his voice to a hush whisper "Ava.  I've been having dreams about you too."  We stood there in silence, I could feel the muscles in my face tense up.

I shifted my body so I was able to scowl at him.

"Why didn't you tell me in the gym last week?" I whispered.

A nervous chuckle slipped past his lips as he stared back down at me.

"I was freaked out ya' know?  Like who has dreams of their classmates continuously, and then the things you dream about happen in real life?  And even if we both told each other, what the hell could we do?  It's not like we know what the dreams mean."

I was shaking frightfully.  Chresanto was right, it's not like we knew what the dreams meant.  Without realizing it, I reached for Chresanto's hands and I squeezed his fingers tightly in my palm.  His hand was warm and sweaty but I honestly didn't mind.

"Maybe if we're lucky, this is just all a dream too." I said.  He glanced at our hands that were together and gulped.

That's when from the center of our hands a light began to glow.  A wisp of wind swept passed us and blasted the flickering lightbulb.  We were stranded in the darkness.  I began reaching for the doorknob...but it wasn't there.  Without releasing his hand,  I began to pat down the door.  It was just a flat surface.  I could feel my throat begin to close up from the lack of air I was receiving.  A slash of red light whipped out of our hands that were connected, then orange, blue, green, purple.  The colors began to swirl into a mini tornado, the light it produced glistened off of Chresanto's brown eyes.

We tried prying our hands apart but it felt like someone super-glued them.

The room began shaking and cleaning supplies began falling off the shelves to the floor with a loud crash.

The gravity machine must've been switched off because our feet began hovering over the ground.  Our bodies were than warped into the tornado as we yelped in fear.

We landed to the floor with a solid thud, my head slamming against it.

As I rubbed the back of my skull I began standing up, adjusting my tank top strap that had fallen off my right shoulder. I began to squint at something rather odd.

I took slow footsteps softly towards it.

"C-Chresanto, come look at this, hurry!" I whispered harshly.

He began walking towards me, his sneakers squeaking on the black, waxed floor.

"What the hell is that?" He gasped.
