Chapter Nine: The Future

Lee's POV

Three Days Later.....

Three days later, I was released from the hospital. I went home to my grandmother's and Lisa helped nurse me back to health. Graduation day will be next month and I hope that I will be able to walk across the stage without my crutches. I'm gonna be starting rehab today and we'll see how that goes. My therapist took me to school so I can finish the last of my finals. I had to be in a wheelchair and Pam wheeled me to class. I finished my finals in four hours and left to go home. I had a headache from all those tests, I had to take. My grandmother gave me some aspirin for my headache. My therapist took me to therapy to help me walk again. I'm determined to walk across that stage for graduation.

A Month Later......

I got my results back from my finals and I passed! I was so excited  and my grandma was weeping with joy. She couldn't wait to plan my graduation party and she wanted to make all of my favorites, like Mac and cheese, fried chicken, barbecue meatballs, potato salad and rice dressing. The party will be at my grandmother's house and then the real party will be at my friend G's house. I graduate next week and I'll be walking with a cane soon. I can't wait for the big day next week. Lisa helped me find a suit for graduation. The school board wants girls to wear dresses and boys to wear suits. I ain't wearing no damn dress. Lisa picked out a white long sleeve shirt, gray vest, gray pants, a red bow tie, and gray shoes. I'm gonna have so much swag. My baby loves it.

A week later.....

It's graduation day and I'm getting dressed for the big day. I stood in the big mirror and checked myself out. My grandmother stood behind me with tears in her eyes. 

Grandma: I'm so proud of you, baby. Your mother would be so happy to see you graduate if she was still alive.

Me: Aw! Grandma, don't make me cry! I do wish she was here. I also wish Lucas and Lil G was still here too. They would be proud of me too. 

Grandma: I'll be there with your cousin cheering you on. 

I wiped my tears away and gave my grandma a hug. She helped zip up my gown and put on my cap. She smiled and Lisa walked in the room with her sexy self. She was wearing a red short sexy dress with black heels. Damn, she's so beautiful, I swear I fall more and more in love with her. I noticed that she was getting a little thick too. It looks good on her, but I wonder why she was getting a little thick. I didn't think anything of it.

Lisa: Hey baby! Are you ready to go?

Me: Yeah. Do you know you are getting kinda thick?

Lisa: Are you trying to say I'm fat?

Me: Baby, no! I'm not saying that at all. 

Lisa: I'm just playing with you! I do have a surprise for you when get back home for your party.

Me: (licking my lips) What kind of surprise?

Lisa: Not that kind of surprise!

Me: Damn! I was hoping it was that.

Lisa: Well, that's the second surprise you just spoiled.

Me: Then what's the first surprise, then?

Lisa: If I tell you, it wouldn't be a surprise now would it?

Me: All right! Let's get out of here.

We loaded up in Lisa's car and went to the Civic Center. Graduation is at seven and it's six. We finally arrived and all the graduates were to go to the gymnasium. We were to practice our drills like where we were supposed to stand and where we supposed to sit in alphabetical order. Pam and I hung around until it was time for graduation started. About 10 minutes before graduation was supposed to start, all the parents arrived and sat in their assigned seats. My grandmother and Felicia sat up front. I saw Felicia with her camera. She was ready to take pictures. I was backstage watching them and I saw Lisa too. Ten minutes passed and the music was played. We all lined up in alphabetical and walked to our seats. My grandma, Lisa, and Felicia all waved at me. I waved back and sat in my seat with my cane in my lap. The principal made a speech, then our valedictorian, Pam, made a speech. I was moved by her words. She knew what she was gonna do in her future. She's gonna be a full-time nurse.  I figured out what I was gonna do and I couldn't wait to tell Lisa. Once Pam finished her speech, everyone clapped, then the principal came up and call out our names so we can receive our diplomas. When it was my turn, I walked up to the stage with my cane in my right hand and a brace on my left leg. My grandma, Lisa, and Felicia all stood up when I got my diploma. I waved at them and they were waving and cheering me on just like grandma said. I know that my mom, my big brother, and my cousin, are all cheering me on too. Once we all received our diplomas, the principal said, " Ladies and Gentleman, I give you the Class of 2016. You've all graduated!" Once he said that, we took off our caps and threw them in the air. We all shouted and screamed. We were so happy that we finally graduated. Pam hugged me and went back to her family, which is, her twins, her mom and her big brother. My family was waiting for me outside. We took pictures and then we left to go home.
