Chapter 12: Beginning of the End
Again, I found myself tied to the chair, listening to Crystal and James interrogate me like a psychologist.
"Why did you stay?" Crystal asked, "You had the tools to go, and you didn't." As expected, Crystal knew the right question to ask. It was 1 of the many reasons why I crushed on her. "I don't know."
Crystal's hand collided with my cheek with the intensity of molten gold.
With her face that much closer to mine, I could see the threads of vermillion through her otherwise hazel eyes, and the shades of ginger framing her face. "You know why you stayed." I didn't, I really didn't, so I dropped my head in submission.
Crystal wouldn't take no for an answer; again, why I liked and almost loved her. But I really didn't know why I stayed, to find that out, I'd need a few more days.
And my self conscious got that, since when I lifted my head, James was there, his metal hand on my shoulder in a fatherly embrace. "You may not know now, but you will. You always do, Aurelia."

"Kennedy!" Skye's hands gripped my shoulders, yanking me out of my dream. I was surprised Simmons let her out of the lab, she'd taken so much blood, and more surprised about her strength after that.
"Yup, I'm awake. Totally fine!" I groaned, squinting at the light tumbling into my room. "Were you having a nightmare?" Skye asked, sunlight eclipsing around her like a stained glass saint. I pulled my sheets up to cover myself, "No."
"You were yelling out."
"Now I know how it is to be Pietro," I mumbled. His name was out before I could register it, which I instantly regretted, like drunk texting an ex. "Pietro?" Skye repeated, eyebrow arching in coy interest, "Is there some boyfriend I don't know about?" Rubbing my eyes again, I rolled out of bed, "Maybe. Now let me get changed."
As I was yanking on my jeans, the cabin door opened without warning, revealing John Garrett.
I leaped behind the bed, hoping to cover my bra strapped chest, "What are you doing here?" Like most girls, I wasn't a fan of middle aged men walking into my bedroom when I was half dressed. Garrett seemed completely unaware of my unease, "Collecting you; they want you upstairs. Also, you woke up 3 hours late."
I really didn't care; I was rather busy in a nightmare, but I couldn't admit weakness. "I'm barely even dressed!"
Garrett scoffed, "You've barely finished your mission. Also, Hand & Sitwell are here." I groaned at the thought as Garrett left, flipping him off when the door clucked shut.
Meeting up with the agents, I fought with the compulsion to kill Hand but luckily Hand wasn't the only agent on the Bus; Sitwell was back, alongside an agent I hadn't met; Blake.
As I joined the circle, Skye stood beside me as they explained their plan to catch the Clairvoyant.
Garrett had narrowed potential identities to 13 'psychic' rejects from the Index. In order to combat the Clairvoyant, the information would be compartmentalised by Skye.
"Pairing off makes total sense. Just a thought though, what if we make it a double blind?" Skye suggested, "I give 1 person from each team the potential Clairvoyant's coordinates, and I'll give the other the identity. That way, no one knows the full specs of the op until you get there."
