Chapter 1:

My mouth salivated as I took in her form. Her sweet smell caught in the wind and hit me in the face. Making my vision blur red. Her long blond hair that glowed brilliant silver when the moon hit it drifted behind her as the wind played with the loose strands. Making her hair look like a veil.

She sat on the lowest branch on the nearest tree. Her feet swinging back and forth as she hummed a light tune to some childhood song my mother used to sing to me.

The wind started to pick up as I got closer to the little girl. Its icy hands making me shiver as they wrapped around me. The ground was covered in a new blanket of snow, only broken by the little girl's footsteps and my own.

I crept closer, emerging from the shadows of the trees and into the silvery moonlight. My skin glowed as I made my way silently towards the girl. She continued to hum, unaware of the dangers behind her.

Her scent became stronger as I came closer, making my mouth water. I could barely see now, everything was tinted red. In no time her feet were dangling above my head, still swinging freely as she continued to hum that same cheerful sound.

I licked my lips, barely containing myself as I watched the main artery in her throat thrum softly under the delicate white skin of hers. I reached my hand out towards her swinging feet, my long red painted nails just inches from that sweet blood of hers.

It had been so long since I last ate, about a month, I had been on the run. And here I am now, about to kill an innocent child. But I didn't care. It's survival.

Just as my sharp nails were about to scrape her ankle a group of birds burst through the trees. Their high pitch screams piercing my ears.

This noise made the girl freeze, her breath caught in her throat as she looked up at the birds as they flew into the cold night sky. Her eyes turned as silver as her hair and it made me wonder if they were blond too.

My eyes darted around, something startled them. I had lived on this Earth long enough to know that birds don't just do that without a reason. I reached out again ready to grab the girl and get it over with when a gun shot rang in the air, following a horrible pain in my chest, which I ignored as I turned around to see a young man holding me at gun point.

He smiled as our eyes met, then they traveled down reaching the ground which I was standing on. His smile creeping slowly up as he continued to stare at that spot. My eyes grazed the ground but I didn't find anything wrong with it. So I looked back up at him confused, growling deep in my throat.

I got in a position ready to leap on him and tare his throat out when a new sound rang through the night; and following that a thud came from behind me. I turned around and saw that the girl had leaped from the branch she had been perched on and was now running towards the man, screaming.

She darted around me, keeping a safe distance. Her long red dress flowing around her as if to protect her from me. Although that wouldn't have mattered, I could snatch her easily. But I let her go, curious as to what she was doing.

When she reached the man she cowered behind his legs, shivering as she stared at me, eyes wide and terrified. I knew I could snap both of them in two, but something was wrong.

The pain in my chest caught my attention now. I placed a hand over it willing for the sharp pain to stop, when I felt hot liquid sliding between my fingers I looked down. A dark puddle of blood, stained the snow around me. My fingers as well as my outfit covered in red, and when I looked back up at the man he fired again.

The loud bang of a door woke me up. The familiar sounds of chains made my eyes snap open and the cool metal that fastened around my skinny wrists brought me back to the real world.
