"So what are you doing out here all by your self?" Chlorine asked the boy, changing the subject.
He held up his neatly crafted bow, his muscles flexing briefly. He gave her a pointed look, "Hunting."
"Oh," she laughed, looking down at her soaked, blue shoes. Her eyes trailed off, catching a glimpse of the drenched clump of feathers that sat in a soggy pile on the ground. She shut her mouth, only showing her teeth, "Sorry we got your bird all wet."
"No, it's okay," he assured her with a smile that seemed more real then not, "To be honest," he played with a soft whisper, "I would fancy a Coaled beast over those whimsy little Silvituos birds any day."
She laughed, shrugging her shoulders, "The diary never mentioned anything about Coal beasts."
The diary?
"Oh," he pursued his lips, the light in his eyes deflating for only a split second, "Well they're small, pig-like rodents that fly through clumps of forest, sniffing out the locations of wide fires and putting them out," he scratched the back of his head. The pause was short. A silence that only lasted long enough for a sliver of joy to tough his eyes, "It's weird," he chuckled, his shoulders bouncing slightly, "They only eat the blackest of coal and the ashy soot found in burned out fires. Coaled beasts. You would think their food choices would make them bitter to the touch of anyone's tongue." He shook his head, "But they're prized meals. Amazingly tasty actually."
Chlorine watched him in amazement, listening to his creamy voice as it stretched up and down with his words.
"Melting in your mouth, disappearing into puffs of sweet honey coated, painless flames." He grinned, smacking his lips at the thought of one sitting on a silver plate in front of him.
Chlorine fallowed him, beaming like a child would. They kept their eyes still on each other while they made their way down to the brush were Orick had just been hiding. Away from the circle of water that we had been standing in. Away from the rocky edge of the trench where we had just tumbled from. Away from my home. Amadahy.
I watched their backs grow smaller as the distance between us grew. They ignored me, focusing only on each other and the bumpy obstacle in from of them.
"Hey!" I shouted, forcing the two to stop, mid-step.
There's no way they're going to just leave me here. Standing with a newly added in my arms. Both soaking wet, head to toe, "Where are you going?" I asked, clumsily stumbling after them.
"T1WL headquarters," They both said in sync.
I paused, staring at them with blank, outsider eyes that felt as if they would never be included.
They hadn't said anything about that place to me.
T1WL.
Or even each other for that matter.
They just knew.
My chest rose and fell with a slight irritation as I let out a small sigh.
I'm so out of the loop right now.
"You don't expect me to just leave you three out here in the woods do you?" Orick asked, gesturing for me to fallow them.
No. I expected you to leave me out here in the middle of the woods.
He smiled politely. Dirt becoming more visible on his face as the morning grew brighter.
