Hey guys 👋 sorry I haven't updated in awhile, I've been busy with work and other stuff. I have recently started watching the Walking Dead and it inspired me to write an original story with Zombies in it. Now this story isn't one of my best I know, but I'm hoping you all find it somewhat enjoyable. I don't know what to call it so for the moment I'm just going to call it something random and probably very stupid! So if you guys want to comment and tell me what you think that would be great and also here's a little challenge for you all. I want you all to read this story and comment with what you think it should be called, my favourite will be chosen. Thanks 🤘

Carrie woke with a start, her hand had gone straight to the blade under her back pack, where her head was resting. Her heart pounded painfully in her chest, a cold sweat broke out on her skin, causing her top to stick to her back. She let out a little breath of relief when her eyes fell upon the quiet room. It was just a dream. Some people might say that Carrie was being paranoid keeping a blade under her backpack pillow, but Carrie would just laugh at those people. She had a lot to be paranoid about these days, keeping her brother alive was pretty stressful on its own, let alone having to do it while keeping a constant look out for Zombies.
Yes Zombies, they're real and currently taking over the world. Her eyes fell upon Lucas her brother, who was sleeping soundly, cuddled up to Tinky their beagle. Carrie sat up and pushed her dirty hair out of her face. They were currently hauled up in a old storage room, in a small grocery store. There was two doors which was good and plenty of windows to keep a look out of, although she had pinned some old blankets up over them, leaving just a small slit to look out of. The room was small and pretty dusty, there was a few metal racks standing on the sides of the room, holding buckets, mops and tissue paper. The only light in the dim room was from a few large candles which Carrie had lit with her trusty lighter.
She stood up and stretched out her aching legs, walking over to a covered window, Carrie held her breath and peaked out. It was dead out there, the white floor was littered with empty boxes and smashed glasses and jars. And there was also a decomposing body. Nice.
But there was no Zombies in sight, they usually moved around at night although you did often see the odd one in the day time. But the ones you really had to look out for where the packs, Carrie found that out the hard way. She could hardly remember what it was like before all the Zombie shit happened, although it had not been very long since. About four months, Carrie though it felt much longer than that, it seemed to of happened over night it was so fast.

Carrie could remember waking up with police sirens blaring loudly as they sped past her house. She jumped out of bed, her heart pounding in her chest, she went to her parents room where they were sat up in bed looking concerned.
"What's going on?" Carrie had asked them.
Her father shook his head, his ruffled red hair flying out around him. Her mother was at the window her arms crossed over her chest, her lips in a tight line. Her short brown hair was sticking up at the back of head.
Her father walked past her quickly and walked down the stairs. Carrie just stood there for a moment listening to the wailing of sirens, then she heard the TV switch on down stairs.
"Maybe a riot has started or something," Carrie told her Mom as they walked down the stairs to check the news.
"Yes, perhaps." Her mother said absently.
Lucas was sat on the living room floor at her fathers feet, Tinky was sat beside him growling softly. The reporter was talking urgently on the screen and Carrie and her mother sat down and listened intently.
"Chaos. Absolute chaos has erupted, Riots and fights breaking out in the streets, the people are so aggressive, some of them are even resorting to biting each other!" Said the urgent voice of reporter Carol Smith.
"Biting each other?" Said her mother sounding very concerned."What would of brought all of this on?"
"I don't know, Mary." Said her father shaking his head as a video clip of a fight came on screen. There was a group of people huddled around someone who was screaming, they seemed to be mindlessly grabbing and snapping at them with their teeth.
"They're acting like animals," whispered Carrie.
The video cut off abruptly and went back to Carol who looked to be in shock.
"Officials have warned that everyone should stay in their houses!" She had told the camera.
"Officials have warned that the situation has turned deadly, do not leave your house. Lock your doors and sit tight until further notice."
"Mommy, I'm scared." Said Lucas his green eyes swimming with tears.
Her mother forced a smile. "It's ok sweetheart. There is nothing to worry about."
But Carrie had known that was a lie. The lights went out suddenly and Lucas let out a shrill scream, Tinky growled loudly and started barking at the closed curtains covering the windows.
"Stay here," said her father, who stood up and walked to a closet and pulled out a bat.
Her mother went to Lucas and wrapped her arms around him, Carrie who was starting to feel increasingly more anxious went to the kitchen, using her IPhone light to find some candles in the drawers. She was at the drawer next to the back door when it happened.
There was a loud bang on the door next to her, she dropped her phone and screamed in fright. She heard a smash and was dropped into complete darkness, the banging continued. A very brutal banging that sounded as if the person behind the door was trying to break through the door with their fists.
Carrie turned and ran to the living room, her heart in her throat.
"There's someone trying to get in the door!" She told them breathlessly. Lucas grabbed Tinky by the collar, stopping her from running into the kitchen, the fur at the back of her neck was standing up and she was barking threateningly.
Her father went to the kitchen with his bat raised, Carrie followed in his footsteps and went quickly to a drawer and grabbed a knife.
Her father saw her and gestured for her to go back into the living room, she shook her head vigorously at him until he turned back to the door.
"Who's there?!" He shouted through the door.
There was no reply just the same loud banging on the door.
"If you don't leave this instant I will call the cops!" He shouted again.
The banging stopped suddenly and Carrie felt the pressure that was crushing her chest ease a little, when the banging didn't return they walked back to the living room, candles in hand.
They all lit a few candles and sat around them. The sirens were still blaring around them and the cop car lights were flashing through the curtained windows.
"How long do you think we will have to wait?" Carrie asked her father quietly.
He opened his mouth to reply but was cut off by a loud smash coming from the hall.
Carrie was on her feet in an instant, so was her father, bat in hand he looked dangerous.
The sound of heavy foot steps filled the room and the pressure returned in Carries chest, she lunged forward and grabbed Tinky who was just about to charge into the hall. Her father walked slowly to the hall her mother trailing him quietly, her hand over her mouth.
Lucas came to her side and clutched her leg.
"Mary! Get back!" Shouted her father.
There was a scream, her father let out a yell and then the sound of grunting and wood hitting flesh filled the room, Carrie shoved Tinky into Lucas's arms and dragged him into the kitchen with her, to get the knife she had had early. Her heart was pounding and her hands were sweaty, she wiped her palms on her sweats and grabbed the knife, willing her heart to quieten down.
Lucas was crying, tears streaming down his face, a struggling Tinky in his small arms.
"Mommy, Daddy," he said breathlessly, his voice breaking.
"Stay here and don't let go of Tinky!"
Carrie ran into the living room and nearly fell to her knees at the sight. There was someone stood in the living room, dressed in night clothes, covered in blood. There was someone else who was lying on the floor, their head split open. Her mother was sprawled out on the floor, her head bleeding and her father. Her father was lied on the floor, his arm gushing blood staining the white carpet. The remaining person was leaning over her father, biting into his flesh.
Carrie could not breath, her breathe was caught in her throat and her head swam, this had to be a dream. She backed away slowly trying not to draw attention to herself, this wasn't right there was something wrong with this man stood in her living room, he moved all wrong, he twitched and snapped his teeth every few moments.
She felt as if her heart was going to pound out of her chest, her parents they were. No they couldn't be. Carrie couldn't leave them like this with this person, but she didn't want to leave Lucas.
She took a tentative step forward and opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out.
She tried again "g-get out NOW!" She screamed at him. The remaining one looked up at her and she felt a chill run down her spine, it definitely wasn't right. It's eyes were a dull red, its face a bluish colour and its mouth was covered in blood.
It grunted softly and took a rattling breath and then it charged.
Carrie took a breath in to scream but it got stuck, she was suddenly darting around it and running to the hall away from Lucas. It followed like she had hoped and she spun around and it was right in front of her. The smell of blood was so strong it made her want to gag, she was going to die she thought as she looked into those dull red eyes. It lunged at her, she screamed and threw out her hand, the blade she was holding sunk into its flesh and black blood soaked her hands. As if on instinct she slashed out again this time aiming for its head. The blade sunk deep into its temple and the thing crashed to the floor.
Carrie let out a shaky breath and dropped the blade to the floor, she killed someone, she killed someone. A strangled noise came out of her mouth as she looked down at the body and the blood covering her hands. She walked slowly back to the living room, shaking uncontrollably and saw another body just under the broken window, that too had its head cracked open. When she got to the living room her legs gave out, her mother was nearest  to her. Her long nightgown was covered in blood, her arms scratched and bitten. She looked to her left and saw her father. He was laying on his front, the bloody bat a few inches from his hand. They were dead.
Carrie stuffed her fist into her mouth to stop from screaming, she tasted bitter blood in her mouth but didn't care. Her heart was breaking in her chest. She rocked back and forth on the floor, nothing had ever hurt like this before, it felt like someone had punched a hole through her chest.
Lucas's shout brought her back to reality, she slowly got to her feet and wiped her bloody hands on her sweats.
She walked into the kitchen and smiled weakly at Lucas, who was holding Tinky tightly in his arms, his face shinning with tears.
"Hey, we have to go alright." She told him gently.
He pouted. "Why? Where's Mommy and Daddy?"
A lump appeared in her throat and she tried hard to swallow it. "Come on let's go and pack some things."
She walked to the sink and washed her hands roughly, before offering it to Lucas and leading him upstairs, she lifted Lucas and Tinky into her arms, putting her hand over his eyes and ran past the bodies in the living room, fighting the urge to throw up.
Once they had got upstairs she set Lucas onto his feet and led him to her bedroom. She then gathered a small amount of clothes and a few personal belongings and put it into her plain black backpack. Lucas sat with Tinky on her bed as still as a statue. Once she was done in her room she went into Lucas's and gathered some of his things, she handed him his small backpack and went to the bathroom. Carrie knew she was stalling, but she didn't know what to do. Where would they go? She just knew that they couldn't stay here, it wasn't safe. She looked into the mirror above the sink and nearly broke down, she wanted nothing more then to just give in to the pain. To let the darkness just take over her body. But she couldn't she had Lucas to think about now.
When they were done upstairs Carrie told Lucas to wait for her in her bedroom, he obeyed silently.
She walked down the stairs and hurried past the bodies again. Once in the kitchen she started packing her backpack full of supplies, food and filling bottles of water. And she then went to the knife drawer and pulled out all of the sharp knives and stuffed them into her backpack. Once she had finished she got Lucas and left the house and her parents bodies behind. They got into her Dads old pick up truck and drove, the streets were in chaos. Houses were burning and people were running around in the street screaming. A few people tried to stop the truck and asked for her help but as terrible as it was Carrie couldn't trust them. She put her foot down and sped away. They drove for what felt like days until they left the crowed city of Vancover. It became quiet from then on, they hardly saw any cars, didn't see anyone it was like every human had vanished off of the face of the earth, but she knew that wasn't true. The electricity came back on again for while and Carrie listened to the reports on the radio, the reporters speaking about safe places where people should go. Carrie started driving to the one nearest her, her hopes high. If only they could get there and then they would be safe or so she had thought. They got there within a couple of days, stopping every now and then to rest and fill up the gas tank on the truck.
But when they got to the safe place, there was nobody there, the old warehouse was completely deserted. Feeling completely alone, Carrie, Lucas and Tinky set off on their own.

A small whine from Tinky, brought Carrie back to her senses. The thought of that night still haunted her but at least now she knew what those things that killed her parents were. About a week after the outbreak, it got announced that people were dying and coming back to life. They didn't know why it happened, some scientists had thought it had something to do with a virus but who knows?
Carrie had got a lot better at handling the Zombies now, sure they were strong and fast but they were also quite dumb. All you had to do was confuse them and wham stab them in the eye. She had a hard time doing it in the beginning, guilt ate away at her but she soon realised that they weren't even remotely human. She hadn't seen another human being in such a long time, Carrie feared that it was just her and Lucas left. Although that did seem quite unlikely she told herself severely, her stomach in knots. She walked back to her backpack and pulled out a bottle of water, she took a swig and licked her dry chapped lips. Oh what she would give for a shower right about now, it's funny how they had took things like showers, cooked meals and electricity for granted before all went to hell. The only luxury she got today was if she could find a cleanish lake to wash in. She pushed her backpack up against the wall and lied down again, resting her head upon it. Carrie closed her eyes and drifted into a dreamless yet uneasy sleep, feeling reassured with the sharp blade in her hand.
