"You see?... everything's..alright."
As Aerith turned marking her farewell to the person she held most dear. Aerith then watched as Zack, her first love and now very dear friend, waved goodbye to his dear friend and legacy, knowing Cloud was forgiven and will live on to know he is no longer alone.
As Zack pushed away from the door frame turning away as he headed out through the doors of the church; Aerith for a brief moment caught his eyes. He smiled as he settled on in front of her; she smiled as well following along behind him. As they made it outside Aerith stepped close behind Zack when he suddenly came to a sudden halt.
Surprised, Aerith took a few steps forward to stand beside him until he spoke.
"I'm happy for him, Aerith. I really am." He said She simply smiled at his words and in doing so placed her hands behind her settling in front of him "Me, too." she said.
Aerith smiled in her thoughts watching as Zack placed his hands on his hips breathing in the outside air feeling as if he was almost alive again. He sighed before he spoke again. "Life is something to be cherished for everyday. Not knowing what will happen tomorrow is frightening. I want Cloud to know that and to live everyday cherishing it." he said confidently.
Aerith stared up at the blue skies memorized, "Don't worry, I'm sure he's knows that now." she said, as she raised her hand to cover her face from the bright sun. Zack took a peak at her; grinning while he placed his eyes towards the sky then back down again towards the open road.
"Our hopes and dreams have faded, but we were given this chance again to help what was lost. That is what I am grateful for; as well as having spent time... with you." Zack's voice sounded calm and tranquil just as Aerith quickly averted her eyes back to his. Zack released a slight chuckle shrugging his shoulders "I know that even if I wanted that chance again I know I couldn't have it." His voice grew serious. "But if I did, I would do it right...starting with you." He faced her as he said it, she noticed his eyes held pain as if seeing through all that has happened in the past. Things that have gotten them this far, situations that have brought them to this very moment. And she didn't want him nor herself to feel this way any longer.
"Zac---."
She paused when He faced back at the church,"Time and battles were my enemy, I gave up everything to get where I wanted to go, but fate stepped in. So I accepted it, but even when you accept your fate life still goes on without you, nothing stops. That is why Cloud is now living and that was/is enough for me. " She watched as he gripped his gloved hand then released it.
Aerith felt tears well up in hers eyes as she tried to see his face, but her eyes were blurred by her tears. She could not find anything to say at that moment. The only choice she had was to stand beside Zack as they stared forward into the distance of the ruins of the Sector 5 slums. Zack seemed as if he was waiting for time to start once again without him. He sighed heavily shaking his head before he spoke again.
"A day will come when dreams and honor will not be the only thing a solider...well... a hero or a regular person will look for or even find. Then again it is the only thing they have now... something you and I can no longer gain." Zack turned away from her again before he spoke again "But the most important thing in life and in death is Love. That is something that cannot be broken or forgotten." Zack paced slowly around as if he was trying to find something to sum up the courage to say what he wanted. He stopped pacing and faced Aerith completely she held her breath as he spoke again.
"Aerith, I missed my chance to say thank you and..." like a child he cowered away facing his back to her "...I love you, for the years I got to spend with you alive." He spoke with great confidence and took the chance to stare at her and saw that she was speechless. He scratched his head to see if it would resolve anything when it didn't he continued "I just want to know that the years of being here like this with you, I got to keep my last promise to you."
All at once she felt she was transferred back into the final moments they spoke, that very moment she would hold onto till the very end.
"Hell--llooooo?"
"Aerith!?"
"I finally got through!"
"Yea..."
"Uh listen...Now's not the best time. I'll call you later."
"No, No, you don't have to..."
"Okay, I'll come visit."
"I'll be here"
"I'll see you...I promise."
She felt the times when they were together with no problems or worries to look forward to, just them being together enjoying the little moments they had.
Aerith placed her hands to her chest and sadly gazed up at the blue skies not noticing until he was very close to her that Zack gently, but softly caressed her cheek. Unintentionally placing a kiss to her forehead. When he pulled back he did not regret the action as he smiled down at her suddenly flushed face "It's time to go back." he said his eyes reaching hers.Though It took a few moments for her to gain sense in her thoughts. She knew from the very beginning she knew how Zack felt. She just didn't know if she could give him that chance again; but now she didn't care anymore. They have both moved on, time no longer stood between them.
Aerith placed her hands together, thinking that if they had both lived she would have given him her heart and soul. Though fate was cruel. It was fate that brought them together again and she was very much happy that he stayed by her side. She realized in the moments of helping Cloud, even if she could no longer be with him or anyone beyond the lifestream. She was happy enough to have found the person she has waited five years for and he has been by her side all along since then. Sharing lost moments and remembering the ones they held engraved forever in their souls. Those are the memories she would not change for anything.
Zack walked ahead as he made his way to fall back into the lifestream, Aerith knew she didn't want time to move again. She very much wanted to at least have this small moment to feel she was alive again. Though reality was always one step ahead that she had to face it.
Aerith gazed upon the skies again feeling almost like a bird trying to cross the storm to get beyond the clouds to see that beautiful sunset. She smiled brightly up at the sky as old memories started to flow through her thoughts again.
"I will never forget them." she whispered.
A new story will surely begin again and surely this time a happy ending will follow. Who knows.
Aerith chuckled lightly at the possibility, Zack turned as he heard her with confusion written all over his face "What's so Funny?" Aerith shook her head for him to continue to assume it was nothing, she then walked the rest of the way until she was standing right beside him.
Zack looked over at her when she took hold of his hand tightly, then his gaze went down at their hands that were intertwined. His eyes looked up at her again to see Aerith smiling brightly like an angel he remembered he first saw when he awoke on old rusted floorboards of an abandoned church.
"Let's go " she said softly, he grinned nodding as he held onto her hand tightly. Closing his eyes they faded back in to the lifestream, together.
Knowing their purpose was done, but their story was just beginning.
The scene drifts off to the place where Cloud tells Denzel of where a hero began his journey.
And so a day will come....
A new picture with a happy smiling family.
When we will once again live....
The scene changes to the church and the buster sword that is now polished and clean, placed in a stone with flowers of promises blooming all around; in hope of seeing another future
and together watch the clouds drift through the azure sky...embracing our dreams.
