Oh and I've got all that I need
Right here in the passenger seat
Oh and I can't keep my eyes on the road
Knowing that she's inches from me
Alden sat inside his car drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. Where was she? He glanced at his watch. He'd been only waiting for 5 minutes. He shook his head. Get a grip, you were just together, you miss her that much already? He sighed loudly. Right then the passenger door opened and Maine eased herself inside.
"Hay, I'm exhausted. All these shoots combined with lack of sleep is taking its toll on me." She turned to him, "Thanks for waiting and the offer to drive me home."
Alden smiled, even when she was tired she still looked amazing. "No problem, you know I like spending time with you no matter how short."
Maine shook her head, "I don't think I'll be good company tonight, sobrang pagod ako to carry on a conversation."
Alden hid his disappointment. "Ok lang, I understand, lean your chair back and relax ka na." He shifted gears and started driving to her condo.
Maine felt bad, he went out of his way to bring her home yet she could barely keep her eyes open, let alone think of what to say.
The silence in the car felt slightly uncomfortable and Alden decided to turn on the radio. "Hope it's ok to play some music, let me know if you're bothered by it." Maine waved her hand, "it's fine."
Alden eased the car to a stop at the lights and looked at Maine. Her eyes were closed and the steady rise and fall of her chest indicated she was asleep. He studied her face, his gaze stopping on her lips. They were parted slightly; as if inviting him to do something. He bit his lip and fought the urge to lean over and kiss her.
He gripped the steering wheel tighter as he stepped on the gas, every now and then his eyes kept glancing over her direction. Being in such close quarters with her was a struggle for him to keep his emotions in check.
In a few minutes he was parking the car in front of her condo. He whispered, "Maine". She didn't wake up. "Maine," he whispered again, this time touching her hand.
Maine slowly opened her eyes. "Hmmm?"
"We're here at your place na." He pushed away a strand of hair off her face.
Maine sat up and her hand flew to her mouth. "Did I fall asleep? I'm so sorry. Hindi ko sinasadya. I just wanted to close my eyes a little."
"It's ok," he said gently, "I like watching you sleep."
"Creepy!" She bowed her head and laughed.
When she looked up, his face had closed the gap between them and her breath caught in her throat.
"No, it's just I can't keep my eyes off of you" he breathed as he softly covered her lips with his.
He slowly pulled away. "Good night Maine. Sweet dreams."
Maine exhaled slowly and smiled at him, "walk up with me."
