AUTHOR'S NOTE:

This story is inspired by a true story. A real-life event that happened a few months ago gave me an idea for a new story which you are about to read now.

However, the characters, the events, and the plot are entirely fictional. Again, everything is by just me, myself and I.

Enjoy!

Liam

I had met her when we were just in third grade.

It was definitely not love at first sight.

"Hey there, do you have a pencil I could borrow? I left mine at home." I had kindly asked my then unfamiliar classmate.

"I have lots of pencils, but no, you can't borrow it." she had replied, not even bothering to look at me.

"Why won't you let me borrow even just one? I need it." this girl was getting me irritated.

"If you really need a pencil, then go borrow from someone else."

"Fine, I'm going to look for a kind and sharing person now. Goodbye." I had said.

She had turned to me then. Yes--I had thought to myself--I finally caught her full attention. The girl had had long, straight black hair that rested on her back, little black eyes, a straight nose and crooked teeth. Even then, I already thought she was very pretty.

"What did you say?" she had asked, frowning. She looked mad.

"You heard it. You're mean and selfish."

I had thought she was going to scream at me or get mad at me, but no. What she did next was totally unexpected.

She cried.

"Liam Addison Odell, why is Cara crying?" our teacher, Ms. Nancy had screamed at me, as she walked towards Cara.

"I don't know." I was scared.

"He told me I was mean!" Cara had said, tears still coming out of her chinky eyes.

"Liam, is that true?" Ms. Nancy was looking straight into my eyes.

"But I just said that because she wouldn't let me borrow her pencil!" I explained.

"Why did you do that, Cara?"

"I just don't want anyone else to use my pencils, okay?" she had said loudly.

"Then, stop fighting now, you two. It's only the first day of school, and clearly, this is both of your faults." Ms. Nancy had explained.

"Sorry, Ms. Nancy." Cara and I had said at the exact same time.

"Don't say sorry to me. Apologize to each other."

"Fine." I had said. "I'm sorry, Cara."

"I'm sorry too, Liam."
