"This is such bullshit!" Kimby yells when Karlie lays down a Draw Four card. She had been close to winning, with only one card left in her hand.
"Shut up and draw." Karlie grins as she lays down another card. Taylor's been watching the two sisters play UNO for almost half an hour and it just gets more entertaining with each rematch. Karlie is currently reigning supreme with four wins and one loss, and it looks as if she's close to going for her fifth victory.
"Maybe this is karma for you cheating at tennis yesterday." Kariann points out.
Kimby scowls at her twin before forcefully slamming a card down on the ever growing pile.
"No one likes a cheater." Taylor agrees.
"You can all kiss my ass, honestly." Kimby declares before getting to her feet and storming out. It's the most graceful rage quit Taylor's ever seen.
Karlie laughs and starts shuffling the deck. Kariann decides to take Kimby's spot, and another game starts up. While the two sisters start talking smack to one another, Taylor decides to go get another glass of water.
"Do you want anything?" Taylor asks as she gets to her feet.
"Kiss for luck?"
Taylor knows that Karlie doesn't need any luck but she bends down and gives her a peck on the lips anyway. Kariann makes a choking sound, a look of disgust marring her face as she watches the exchange. Taylor sticks her tongue out at the twin and then makes her way towards the kitchen, a goofy smile plastered on her face as she goes.
The house is extremely quiet because Karlie's cousins have all been packed into two separate cars and driven to play in a nearby park. It became apparent that they were all going stir crazy from being cramped up in the house for so long, so their parents decided to get them outside where they could run off some of the pent up energy. Taylor initially wanted to go along but then she learned that Karlie's parents weren't going. That meant she would have a window of opportunity with the majority of Karlie's family being out of the house for a few hours.
Taylor gets her glass of water and drinks it quickly. She gets cottonmouth just thinking about what she's about to do. She's been psyching herself up all morning, and has already practiced what she intends to say, but it doesn't make things any easier. She drinks another glass before venturing towards the den. Karlie's parents are curled up on the couch and watching what looks to be an episode of House Hunters. Unfortunately, Kimby and Brandon are also in the room. The two are engrossed in their cell phones but she needs to talk to Karlie's parents alone.
Taylor almost turns around, trying to tell herself that she'll wait until Karlie's parents are alone. Instead, she clears her throat to make her presence known. Four pairs of eyes fall on her, and Brandon quickly looks away the second he sees who it is. He's still a little traumatized from the garage incident.
"Guys," Taylor's voice cracks, and she ends up clearing her throat again, "I think Karlie and Kariann want to play a group match."
"That game's stupid." Kimby scoffs and looks back down at her phone. Brandon doesn't look all that interested either.
"Just go, please."
The desperation in Taylor's voice catches Kimby's attention. She looks at Taylor and then over at her parents, trying to figure out what's going on. Finally, Kimby gets to her feet, pulling Brandon up with her. He protests but she just pushes him forward, ignoring his whining. "Shut up, we're gonna go play UNO."
Taylor and Kimby share a meaningful look as she and Brandon walk by her. Kimby has no idea what's going on, which makes her compliance that much more appreciated. Taylor makes a mental note to thank the twins in a big way once this entire thing is over with. After they're left alone, Taylor flashes a nervous grin at Karlie's parents and then takes a seat in the armchair that's closest to the couch where the couple are sitting.
