New neighborhood, new school, and hopefully new friends.
I walk down the stairs to the kitchen where my mom is preparing her brief case, she has an important case today defending some whacked up delinquent boy. She's a sucker for helping kids in trouble. "What's up Momma Solace?" I ask hoping to calm her nerves, she gets nervous before big cases like this one. I quickly get to making her a cup of green tea as I do every day, but I suspect she needs this one just a bit more than the other days. As I'm waiting for the kettle to whistle, I make myself a piece of peanut butter toast with honey on it. I look out the window to the foreign scenery. I guess a clear view of a lake is better than the brick walls that I'm used. Moving away from the busy streets of California, to the calm relaxed neighborhood in the country side of New York is honestly the best thing we've ever done.
Leaving that disgusting school filled with cruel people, especially hi-
My thoughts are interrupted by the shrill sound of the kettle. I pour the water into her favorite tea cup and open a tea bag packet and dip into the steaming water. I carefully walk over to her and hand her the cup, she's reviewing her case like her life depends on it.
My wrist watch beeps signaling it's time to go to school. I quickly down my toast and grab a water bottle out of the fridge. "By momma, I'll see you after school." I shout over my shoulder. "By Sunshine!" she calls back. She's always called my sunshine, she said it's because when I was born my surprising amount of blonde hair reminded her of the sun, therefore, Sunshine.
I grab my keys off of the rack and take a deep breath and stare myself in the eyes in the reflection of the mirror hanging on the wall by our door. You'll be fine, you can do this. One last deep breath and I'm out the door.
Upon arriving at my new school people stare, I don't have the most normal car. Bright yellow Lamborghini, I mean I ride in style. And while most of the time I would be showing it off, I can't help but be a little nervous.
I've never had to change schools before, and yes, I am happy and excited, but I am also worried. What'll people think? Will they be as friendly as the others at my school? What will the teachers be like? God, I haven't even thought about that. What will-
"SHIT!" In hindsight I probably should have payed more attention to the road and everything because one second I'm stressing about school and the next I'm swerving to avoid a boy. I come to a stop at a parking place and quickly get out, already yelling apologies to him. When I approach him he has one hand on his knee the other clutching his chest. He kind of looked like a very small dark grandpa which would have been funny if not for the fact I almost ran him over.
"Oh god I'm so sorry, are you ok?" I go to put my hand on him, but looks up and glares. Straightening out and regaining his posture I finally get a good look at him and no Will, his eyes aren't the prettiest you've seen what are you talking about?
"I'm fine just, watch where you are going..." The mystery boy trails off his gaze all of a sudden very focused on my face and looking confused. "I don't think I can say I've seen you before, you new?"
"Uh yeah, just moved to the area." Come on Will get yourself together, he is the one who nearly got run over yet is acting calmer than you.
He nods, seems to consider something for a bit before blurting out, "Nico"
"Excuse me?"
"My name. It's Nico, Di Angelo." He looks around nervously, then sticks out a hand. I take it starting to say my name before being yanked by Nico, who surprisingly has a large amount of strength for someone so small. Seconds later a car rolls by, pulling up into the nearest open spot. "I'd rather no one gets run over today." He takes his hand back, stuffing it in the pockets of his jeans. "Anyway, what were you going to say?"
