"No."
She glanced at me.
"You're not getting an abortion."
Kaitlyn shook her head, looking disgusted and miserable at the same time.
"What else can I do, Leo? I'm unmarried, and I'm carrying a child. My parents will murder me. And they know you. They like you. They'll know the baby's ours. And if you leave me - it'll be me they'll blame. They won't blame you, 'cause you're the guy. They'll blame the girl for giving in. Everyone always blames the girl."
I ran a hand through my hair.
I didn't see how I could help her.
I knew, for a fact, that it wasn't my baby.
The thought of Kaitlyn possibly having cheated on me felt funny - something I didn't want to ponder over. It hurt me, a little, but I'd stopped loving her a long time ago.
But to have her say, with such conviction, that it was my child?
"Kaitlyn, we'll sort this out. Okay? I'll give you money every month to look after the baby, and -"
"No, Leo." She sounded sad, genuinely so. "It needs a father. If you can't be there for us, then you should leave." She turned her face away, probably so that I wouldn't see her cry. "I don't have anything to live for, anyway."
Suddenly, I understood.
She was giving me a choice.
I could save her baby, or I could kill them both.
For the first time in my life, genuine hatred for her poured into me.
"Leave, Leo, please."
This time, it wasn't Kaitlyn.
I knew that Ravi was watching, even though he wasn't there.
But I knew, at the same time, that I could never abandon a child.
I was insane. It was crazy.
I didn't even love her.
But I had to.
Nobody deserves to die.
"Fine," I said, tasting doom on my tongue. "I'll marry you."

After making sure that Kaitlyn got home safe, I made my way home slowly.
I knew what was going to happen once I got past my front door.
I knew I was doing the right thing, but why did it feel so wrong?
"Ahhh!"
I ran both hands along my hair, frustrated.
Why was this happening to me? What did I do to deserve this?
Feeling horrible, I continued my journey home.

I was expecting a vase to fly into my face the moment I stepped into the house, but it was eerily quiet.
I took a deep breath and ran to my bedroom, shutting the door behind me.
I jumped into bed, pulling the covers over my head.
I trembled.
I was deathly afraid, and I was waiting for him to come.
Minutes - though they seemed like hours - passed by, and after a long time of waiting, I emerged from the safety of my blanket fort.
