I stared across the cafe towards the man but nothing seemed unusual about him other than his dark apparel. He wasn't a spirit that I was positive. Spirits always have an outline of a glow around them kind of like an oura. Dark for the evil and violent ones (who I usually avoided at all costs as they are never looking for a pleasant conversation and only wish to wreak havoc, and cause pain and destruction wherever they go.) Golden for the innocent and gentle souls who are merely lost seeking answers or directions.

But this man was a solid breathing human being. I thought. But why couldn't Sophie see him? What makes him different? After musing for a few more minutes I decided I would go talk to him to deduce if I was indeed crazy or not. I grabbed a pot of coffee and made my way over to his booth.

"Good morning sir. Would you like a coffee or something to eat?" I asked the man.

Upon closer inspection I realized just how handsome he was. He had black shaggy hair that just barely brushed his shoulders paired with dark eyes that almost glowed and high cheekbones. He was tall, very tall and would have towered over my 5ft 5 figure if he stood next to me. He was fit but not overly so and his black t-shirt hugged his torso attesting to that fact. He had on a leather jacket and a pair of combat boots laced over his dark blue jeans. I quickly noticed his shocked face as he took me in, looking me up and down. He seemed as confused with me as I was with him. Slowly he stood up.

"You can see me?" he asked with his deep voice rumbling from his chest sending shivers down my spine.

"Yes should I not?" I replied with one eyebrow raised to make myself seem more confident than I actually was.

"No" he stated seeming bewildered with our current circumstance. "excuse me" he said quickly walking around me heading for the door.

"Wait" I yelled. " Who are you?"

"My name is Hades" he simply replied as he opened the door and stepped outside, leaving me dumbfounded. His exit didn't even ring the bell hanging on the door.
I slowly sat at the booth he had occupied thinking over what had just happened. Hades, that name sounded familiar, but where had I heard it before? I scanned the cafe to make sure I had no other customers and pulled out my phone, pulling up the internet. I typed his name in, and article after article showed up about the god of the underworld.

So that's where I had heard it before. I sat wondering if these "gods" could actually exist. I had never seen evidence of the existence of a higher power except for the day I saw a spirit for the 1st time.

Surely it was just a mere coincidence that he was named after this god. Sophie must have just been in a hurry to leave and hadn't seen him. Maybe he was just surprised I noticed he was there because it he hadn't been served. Still it didn't explain his sudden exit and wierd behavior.

Soon after a customer came in making me forget the encounter and I got back to work, until I left at five p.m. and headed home. Once  there I was again enveloped in silence so I quickly turned on the radio to make some background noise. I absolutely hated being alone and silence made it worse so I always made sure that something was making noise to make me feel like I was less lonely.

I headed upstairs and changed into a comfortable outfit and set off to make dinner; a microwave meal the same as every night. My paycheck from the cafe was never enough to pay the bills and make homemade meals. So I had to deal with the frozen meals that were cheaper. Afterwards  I washed the dishes and sat down to watch a random movie playing on the TV. But I couldn't focus on it. I probably couldn't have even told you what I was watching. I was too focused on my encounter with Hades earlier this morning. He was an enigma. A hot enigma though.  Frustrated with my inability to come up with a reasonable explanation for our encounter I decided to go to bed and forget it had ever happened.
