The beeping sound of a heart monitor filled the room. The room was dark.
As I opened my eyes a flash of light hit me and I felt excruciating pain in my head. I turned to my left to see my mother sobbing holding my hand. As I looked to the right I see my father, eyes red and puffy, he's been crying.
"hello?" I mutter under my breath.
My mother lifts her head up and smiles "baby, your awake. Mommy is here, don't worry" she remarks.
"pumpkin!" my dad yells out.
"I'm so glad your awake, how are you feeling " my dad asks curiously.
"My head hurts... What happened to me?" I ask looking confused.
Moments later the doctor walks in.
"Ahhh, Miss Shaw, I see you're awake. How are you feeling young lady?" the doctor asks with a serious look on his face.
"my head is pounding and I have this sudden urge to pee." I say in a quite voice.
"All normal, alright now Miss Shaw I have got a few questions I need to ask you. " he says sternly
"O-o-ok?"
"Alright, first off, what is your name? "
" Brook, Brooke, u-u... Brooke Shaw " I stutter
" okayy... How old are you Brooke?"
"I am 16"
The doctor looks at my parents with a concerned look on his face.
I say with worry in my voice,"did I get it wrong, I am 16 or am I not, how old am I?" I start to get restless and move around a lot as the doctor tells me I need to be still.
"Next question, what is your mother's and fathers name Miss Shaw? "
" uh-uh my mother's name is... BAILEY " I yell aloud regretting it once I feel the splitting pain in my head.
" Careful Miss, you need to take it easy. And your dad's name Miss?"
"my dad, he has a name, it is... R-r-rr Roger, it is Roger. "
" both are correct, good job miss Shaw, last question, what were you doing when you fell? "
" I only remember a little bit before it went dark. "
" say what you remember Brooke " my dad exclaims with a gentle voice.
" uh I was with my boyfriend Jason and we were in my room on my bed, uh, watching TV? " I say in a question like form." my parents were outside doing something and we we were watching TV when I got up to pee and when I woke up I was in hospital " I replied.
My father looked at my mom with a pale face like he was about to throw up and my mom opened her mouth, about to speak when the doctor interrupted her-
"May I have a word with you Mr and Mrs Shaw outside please? " Dr Sawyer asks politely with a worried voice.
As the step out the ward my dad looks at the doctor and begins to speak, "Dr Sawyer, does my daughter have amnesia?!"
"Unfortunately that is so, when she slipped and fell she knocked her head reasonably hard, she had a slight Concussion and amnesia."
"How long with it last?" my mother asked worried.
"unfortunately Mr and Mrs Shaw I cannot say, it varies from person to person, she may regain all her memories, she might never regain any, or she might simply only regain a few, we do not know for sure"
My mother drops her head in sadness and my father sighs.
"Sorry ma'am and Sir, only time will tell, but I unfortunately have to tend to my other patients, if you have any concerns don't hesitate to contact me, have a good day." he let's out a slight smile as he walks off.
My dad looks over to my mom and begins to speak "what is the chances, her damn
memory stops last when that douche was still with her."
My mother looks at him sadness in her eyes "what are we going to do, how do we tell our daughter, that the guy she thinks is her boyfriend, screwed her over, cheated on her and is now in a relationship with the girl he cheated on her with, it will break her!"
A tear falls from my mother's eyes and they turn around and make their way back to the ward.
