Run

I'm running through a cornfield that reminded me of the view that you'd see passing the countryside. The place looks familiar. To my right, an infinite field of corn and to my left, I see a road.

I look down at my feet and I see that I am barefoot. I look up and I suddenly find myself sitting in the backseat of a truck. I look around and I hear laughter coming up front.

I see my mother and my father laughing. My father's laugh filling up the vehicle and mama's face lit up the sunlight that passed through the window.

I remembered this. I was 11 when this happened. Every year, my family went to the farm that belonged to my grandparents. It was a big farm. One with a stable and a barnyard that I would frequently visit and mess around in during the stay.

I was so into the dream of a distant memory that I didn't even notice the person sitting beside me.

I couldn't see his face because he was looking out the window but I could tell he was laughing. He was wearing a red flannel shirt with black pants and sneakers to go with it. He was wearing a bracelet with a pendant in the shape of half a heart. I knew that from somewhere.

As my eyes travelled back to his face, my eyes met his.

Sudden realization hit me and terror filled me right to the bones. Those eyes have haunted me more than once in those dark nightmares I often have.

Everything in my vision was turning red and I couldn't breathe. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, I was already standing in the middle of the road.

You

You were already standing there in front of me a few feet away

You came closer and closer until only a few inches seperated us

I couldn't move. You grinned baring your teeth and placed your hand on my cheek.

I watched as my own skin turned into the color black. I was panicking but I still couldn't move. It was hurting and I couldn't breathe.

The last thing I saw was your eyes

The last thing I felt was your thumb swiping away my tear

The last thing I heard was a gunshot before everything turned as dark as your soul
