2- Aftermath

"Couldn't sleep?", I heard my friend, Raegan.

"You think?", I turned around to face the view our cheap apartment graciously gives us.

"What was it about?", she asked standing beside me. Silence became my answer.

"It'a been months since that incident, S.", she sighed, "You have got t-"

"I have to what? I take sleeping pills every night and I even do all the things that the doctors I've visited and the internet tell me to get a freakin good night sleep. So tell me Rae, why the fück do I still find myself awake at night?" I cut her off as irritation and anger are evident in my voice.

"I can't sleep, Rae. Every night it's the same dream and everytime I have it, I can't even breathe. Don't tell me that I can fücking get over it easily cause it happened months ago." I finished.

"Look S, I'm not telling you that you should forget about it just like that. I'm not stupid Scarlett. I know it's hard to forget matters like that. I'm just trying to tell you that you need to find some sort of source of positivity in your life.... well, aside from me" She said laughing.

I looked at her and she was already staring at the view.

I moved into this apartment a few months ago and I didn't really expect a smiling girl to greet me at the living room of my new apartment. I reread the ad again and I just noticed the roommate detail.

I just wanted to get out of the hospital so bad that I didn't even care if I had to share an apartment with a stranger.

Lucky for me, she understands and she knows who I really am and what I've done and she promised she would never tell.

To be honest, she reminds me of Lilac and Blace.

She's a broken girl, and I admit, more broken than me.

but that's a story for another time

"You wanna go out?", Raegan randomly asks.

"What?", I asked confused.

"Come on S, don't tell me you need a hearing aid", she says laughing.

"No I heard what you said it's just...Right now? At 1:00 in the morning?", sounding baffled. It's early. Way too early, even for me.

"It's not like you're going back to sleep.", she says walking to her room just to stop and turn around, "plus I want to go get groceries and get a cup of coffee that slaps you awake.", going inside her room and closing the door.

Well it's either I stay here and do nothing or go with her and face the morning.

I'm staying.

As soon as she walked out of her room and saw me making myself comfortable on the couch, she took hold of my ankles and dragged me to my room. I didn't make a fuss because I knew I was going to be forced to go anyway the moment she suggested we go out.

It is 2:57 a freakin m and I am currently standing in between the body care products and the junk food aisle. Raegan took it upon herself to drive us to a grocery store and make me stand in the same spot for minutes while she picks the things she'll buy.

I mean, come on, I was done picking all of mine an hour ago.

"Raegan do not doubt me when I say I will stab you if you pick that shampoo up again and put it down for the hundredth time."

She shushed me and picked the fricking bottle up and - finally - put it in the cart.

She was walking to the cashier when I remembered I forgot to get ice cream.

I turned around and looked for ice cream. Surprisingly, there was this huge container for ice cream which was pricier than the small one beside it. I picked one and in my defense, the size of the ice cream is worth the price I'll be paying for.

I walked up to the cashier but I couldn't find Rae there.

What the hell?

She better not have left me.

I looked around and I can see her figure outside walking to the car carrying the groceries. Unfortunately, I had to leave the ice cream if I wanted to catch up to her.

I set the ice cream down on a random aisle and ran. I catched up to her panting heavily and I realized that she looked pissed.

The hell did I do?

"What's with the face?" I asked her and trying to catch my breath at the same time.

She huffed, "I was lined up at the cashier waiting for my turn and suddenly, I remembered that I forgot to buy toothpaste so I told this woman next to me to save my spot. I hurriedly got the toothpaste and when I got back she was already paying for her things. I was okay with that since last time I checked, she only had a few to pay for. By sometime she was talking to the man next to me and next thing you know, they were obviously flirting. Standing in between them was awkward as hell btw. She was obviously batting her eyelashes too much and she was giving these weird smiles every now and then that made her look like she was constipating. Anyway, they were finished talking and the woman was finished paying for her things so I stepped up to the counter and before I even got to put my things on it to pay, the guy who was next to me earlier put his things on the counter, ignored me, and started talking to the woman again. Like what the actual fuck. I tried to get his attention by tapping on his shoulder but he wouldn't budge. So I slapped the back of his head. He--"

"wait, you slapped the back of his head?" Raegan was never the violent type.

"yes now let me continue", she rolled her eyes, "he turned around, looked at me directly in the eyes, threw me a glare and scoffed. That obviously put him in a bad mood as he ignored the woman after that. He payed for his things and surprisingly he payed for ours then he said that I should learn to be more patient and that I should be thankful that he paid for our groceries which he classily identified as something more valuable than me.", she finished.

Wow.

"I missed a lot, that ice cream really was heavy."

"Who does he think he was talking to? Some bimbo who'd fall to her knees in the presence of some guy who was obviously blessed with good looks but acts that way? He messed with the wrong bitch. I should have kneed him in the crotch.", she fumed whilst getting into the car.

I put the groceries at the back and got in after. She still didn't stop muttering.
