Chapter X
Winston isn’t entirely sure where he is right now.
He does however know that he is still somewhere in California.
Bloody idiot, he berates himself. That is the absolute last time you fall asleep on the bus just because you drank too much.
He had gotten off that particular bus sometime ago and boarded several others in its wake, looking for a town that looked old and interesting, because honestly he has no idea where to look for what he wants to get Ted.
He’s in some old looking town now, having finally decided that he is sick of buses and wants nothing to do with them for a long time. At least, not until he has what it is he wants and has to make the trip back towards Anaheim. He is starting to wish he had taken their car, but had thought a swift and unsuspecting getaway involved being a stealthy ninja that jumped from the second floor in the middle and running off into the distance silently.
Winnie subconsciously rubs his knee. That had hurt a little more than he had expected.
After his escape from the window he had hitch-hiked his way to a bus station and about eight hours later here he is, in some tiny town in the middle of nowhere.
And he’s almost out of booze.
Luckily, he had brought a very fair amount of cash with him, but that’s meant for Ted’s surprise and some of it for the ride home and a little bit of food if he can spare it, but certainly not for him getting wasted.
Winnie perks up upon seeing someone walking down the empty streets towards hi,. “Hullo, I’m not from around here,” Winston calls out, “Could you tell me where we are?”
The man scowls, giving him a glare worthy of Ted when he’s reprimanding Winnie for doing something stupid.
“Amercia, ya damn brit.”
Winston scowls right back. “Well thanks, must’ve missed the sign when I flew in.” Winston replies sarcastically, and then mumbles under his breath, “Damn geezer.”
A fist flies toward his face and Winston lets out an undignified yelp and ducks beneath it, hearing the air whoosh past him.
“No need for that, mate!” Winston squeaks.
The man stops his assault abruptly. “You gonna insult me prettyboy, you’re gonna say it to my face.”
Winnie flutters his eyelashes at the man, unable to hold back his snarky attitude in a situation like. “You think I’m pretty?” He giggles.
Winston dodges another punch. “Okay okay, I’ll stop, I’m sorry I called you a geezer, yeah?” He says quickly, holding his hands up in surrender. “Please, I just really wanted to know what town this is, I haven’t a clue where we are.”
The man shoves his hands in the pockets of his well worn jeans, seeming to accept the apology, albeit grudgingly.
“We’re in Victorville, California.”
“Thank you,” Winston replies, exasperated.
“Is that all you were looking for, prettyboy?” The man asks gruffly, already starting to walk away.
“No wait!” Winston persists, following after him. “You wouldn’t happen to know if there’s an antique store around here, would you?”
