Tamaki Suoh: I don't get why the keys on a keyboard aren't in alphabetical order.

Haruhi Fujioka: Why should you care?

Kyoya Ootori: It actually was an alphabetical order many years ago, when typewriters were in use. People who used the typewriters often for things such as newspaper editing, got skilled at speed typing. Skilled enough for the typewriter to malfunction cause of the speed, it couldn't process the letters correctly and would end up looking unlike letters at all or even ruining the typewriter. So typewriter manufacturers changed the keyboard to QWERTY style, to kinda throw them off, so they would type slower to try and prevent mistakes. When computers were invented, and they could take the speed typing, everyone was used to QWERTY style, so no one really wanted to change it. Thats why its like that today.
