The Rain

I woke up and did my usual routine. I said bye to my mum and rushed out the door.

I was walking to school and I tried not to get noticed by the jocks again. I glanced at them and Nick looked like he wanted to kill me. I got scared so I stared at the ground. I was so sure that he was going to march on over and punch me right then so I was shocked when he didn't. I looked up again and saw Louis giving Nick a look as if he were saying 'don't you dare go over there, I will have you kicked off the team.'

I felt relieved as I kept walking to my locker. I grabbed my books and headed to first period. I sat down in my seat just thinking. I like the fact that Louis is like my bodyguard, and I'm thankful for that. But the I realized, I don't want to make him feel like he always had to protect me from Nick...I should be able to defend myself! Why does he even care about me anyways? He's supposed to be one of them, isn't he?

The teacher walking up to the front of the class snapped me out of my train of thought and she was the only thing that had my full attention.

Lunch seemed to come fast today. I had absolutely no clue where I would sit today. My eyes wandered around the lunchroom. I found a spot where I didn't think I could be spotted. I are my lunch in peace and kept my head down.

Nothing happened at lunch today though. Maybe Louis actually did straighten him out yesterday. I smiled to myself as I still wondered how I would repay Louis for sticking up for me like that.

The last bell finally rang. A wave of relief washed over me because that means I get to now go home and not worry about anyone throwing punches at me for the rest of the evening.

I walked to my locker and put my books in my backpack. Someone came up from behind and slammed my locker shut, almost on my hand. I turned around to see who it was but I should have already guessed. Nick.

"Aww, did little Marcel actually think he would get out of school without any beatings today? And after what happened yesterday?" He smirked. "I don't think so."

I gulped and tried to slowly get away from him. Bad choice.

"Where do you think you're going?!" He grabbed a strong hold on my arm with his left hand, probably creating a bruise there. He slowly raised his right hand into a fist. And I saw his fist coming at my face I moved my head and his hand hit the locker. This just mad him more angry, his face becoming bright red.

"Stay still you little punk!" He screamed in my face. I shut my eyes closed really right as I felt his fist hit me square in the eye. I could already feel a black eye forming and it started to throb.

Nick started walking away, proud of the job he did before he looked back at me and grabbed my arm again, causing me to wince.

"And you better not tell Louis about this! Or else something even worse will happen to you. Got it?"

I just stared back at him. Speechless.

"Am I clear?!" He yelled in my face.

My eyes widened and I nodded slowly.

"Good." He shot me an angry look and walked out of the building.

I covered my bruised eye with both my hands and walked to the bathroom. I turned the sink on and splashed some cold water on my eye, making it feel a little better already. I looked at myself in the mirror and gasped. I looked horrific. I covered my mouth and tears started streaming down my face. I sat on the ground of the bathroom with my back pressed against the wall just silently crying. Why does this have to happen to me? Why can't it be someone else? I never even did anything wrong. I get straight A's and always do what anyone asks me to. What have I done to cause me all this pain?

After about 15 or 20 minutes of just sitting there and crying like a pathetic loser, I decided that I really needed to start heading home. I opened my locker once again, grabbed my backpack and walked toward the outside doors.

I opened the door and just my luck...of course it had to be raining. Well, correction, practically pouring down rain. Well this day just keeps getting better and better I thought. Note my sarcasm.

I went the direction towards my house, getting drenched on the way. Someone was pulling into their driveway so I had to stop on the sidewalk to let them pull in. I looked at the person getting out of the car and they looked very familiar. Wait, is that Louis?

"Hey! Marcel! Over here!" I looked at him and saw him waving his hands at me. I waved back and smiled.

"Hey!" I said back, just to not be rude. Next thing I know he's running towards me.

"C'mon! Lets go inside my house, you're getting soaked!" He said seriously.

I thought about this for a minute. Well I should be getting back home before my mum starts worrying, I already stayed at the school long enough. But then again, it wouldn't hurt to stay inside his warm house until the rain stopped.

"Okay." I smiled and followed him into his giant house. I had quite a big house too but his was so much better in a way that I couldn't explain.

I looked at Louis and his jaw dropped. I stood there, kind of embarrassed that he was just staring at me.

"Oh my goodness. Marcel, what on earth happened to you?!" He said.

I realized why he said this and I covered up my eye really fast, remembering what Nick had told me earlier. I can't tell him, I can't tell him, I can't tell him!

"O-Oh nothing. You see, I-I just tripped in my way home from school and got this black eye." I told this lie.

"Well here, let me help you with that, it looks like its getting worse by the minute." He showed me the way to his bathroom and on the way I couldn't help but stare at everything in his house in awe. He got out alcohol and put some on a cloth. I backed away.

"U-Um is that going to hurt?" I questioned him.

He rolled his eyes and smiled. "Don't be such a baby. It won't." I felt him tilt my chin up and dab on my eye with the wet cloth. It stung.

"Ow! Louis! You said it wouldn't hurt! It stung!"

"Sorry, I guess I lied." He smirked and walked out if the bathroom, leaving me alone.

I feel like I can trust telling Louis anything, should I tell him what actually happened today? I found Louis in the kitchen and he handed me a cup of tea.

"Thanks, look Louis, the truth is..." I told him about everything that happened after school.

"Why didn't you tell me before?" He asked.

"B-Because Nick told me that if I told you then something worse will happen to me." I walked towards him and grabbed ahold of his hands. "P-Please don't tell him I told you this! P-Please!" I begged.

"Okay I won't." He sighed. "But promise me you'll tell me if he does something to you again."

"Okay, but can I ask you a q-question?"

"Sure, anything."

"Why do you care if I get beat up or not? W-Why do you care so much?"

He shrugged. "To be honest, I don't know. I have a strange feeling that me and you could be good friends you know." He smiled.

"Oh, well, thanks for everything." I smiled back. "B-But I really don't think you and me could be friends. I-I mean, you're Mr. Popular and I'm just a nerd." I frowned.

He just smiled and said, "You never know what could happen."

I looked out the window. "It looks like the suns coming out. I better get home." I walked to the door.

"Bye, I hope to see you around later." He yelled as I stared walking down his driveway already.

I waved. "Bye and I'm sure you will!"

I spun around on my heel and started walking back home, thinking about what a strange and eventful day this was.
