Kaylee sat down on the grass and stared at the ground. She was smiling softly. Her mother silently watched from her window, frowning worriedly. Kaylee saw from the corner of her eye but ignored it. Her mother worried too much about her. She looked down at her sickly pale skin. She heard a familiar soft meow. She smiled and crawled over to her outside cat named Mittens. Kaylee pet her very gently, petting from the top of her head to the tip of her tail. Mittens name was because her front paws were brown and the rest of her was black, therefore she looked like she was wearing Mittens. Kaylee coughed softly. She smiled weakly at Mittens. She knew that she was going to be fine. She has to be. She just started 2nd grade, she must live until she's an adult at least. She sighed. "See ya later, Mittens." She cooed and skipped to her door. Her mother opened the door quickly and shooed her inside. "Sweetie, you really shouldn't be outside much. It's really hot." Kaylee rolled her eyes. "Mommy! A little sun won't kill me." She pouted. "I'm not a baby." She fumed. Her mother smiled weakly. "I know, I know." She cooed and picked her up and twirled her around. "M-mommy!" Kaylee giggled, smiling widely. Her mother put her down. She giggled. "I'm going upstairs now." She twirled around and skipped upstairs. She sat down in front of her art easel trying to think of what to draw
