Chapter Thirteen:
HuntersLuis
We were chased into the darkness of the building. Exploring the humongous room we were in. Gregory sniffed the air and breathed out a fog. The both of us were panting from the run in here and from how scared we were. Everything happened in a second. A step creaks. We run. Jessica falls. Now we are separated. I know how much J hates Kal and I was afraid they might end up killing each other now since they're alone. When I took a glance before we ran into this building, I discovered that Kal and Jessica ran into the hospital. Hopefully they are smart enough to grab some meds and make it out of there alive and just go on without us.
There were desks everywhere with dusty computers, aged and moldy papers all over the floor. Then, we spotted the vault. The circular, metallic vaults door was wide open. I took the opportunity to check inside of it. Bodies. They laid cold on the floor, dry blood covered in the areas of where they either stabbed or shot themselves. Someone must of came to save them but were too late. Gregory and I kept looking around the, what we now realized was a, Bank. Looking for the exit was tough since the Bank was like freaking 10 stories tall. There had to be one in the back of the 1st floor we were on.
Finally. The exit. Stacks and stacks of chairs, desks and other furniture were blocking the exit. "Damn." I muttered and rubbed my arms when it got colder. "We can move them out of the way. Come on." Gregory suggested. Carefully not to have the whole stack of heavy furniture to fall on us, I first lift off one of those chairs with wheels on the bottom. One of the wheels spun crazily as I moved it and set it down on the floor. I was about to help Gregory with carrying down a desk but I heard the entrance of the Bank open. Stepping forward, I cock my head when I saw someones foot holding the door to let people come in.
Too many of them. Too many of them to take out. The hunters are here. "Pst." I say to Gregory to get his attention and he looks to where I'm standing and then at the entrance. We shuffled to the wall on our right and crouched so a tall buff man doesn't see us. I was thinking hard; no ideas came to mind. We can't keep moving the blockage of furniture around because they'll see us and kill us with no feeling, no regret and no heart.
What do we do. What do we do. What do we do.
"Sam! Some cold ones here. Let's check if they got something good on them." Some asshole says and enters the vault with another asshole. There were other conversations going on and movement as well. There were like over 20 men. Half of them were planning to go upstairs and sweep the floor, the other half were making a fire to warm up before they continue their other sweeps. The entrance door opened again, in came 2 people. I was guessing it was more of those hunters and I guess the group of hunters at the fire thought the same because they didn't even look to see who came in. One of the two who came in closed the door and was then pulled to hide behind the front counter of the bank.
What the hell were they doing? They didn't move after one of them peeked behind the counter and saw the group of hunters. Maybe they aren't one of them. I thought I'd signal them to let them know they're not alone. I grabbed one of the papers that were scattered on the floor and tried my best to crumple it into a ball, quietly. Aiming at one of the two, I threw the paper ball with so much force that it made a loud 'Whack' when it hit their face. "What are you doing?" Gregory whispered and peeked over my shoulder. "Signaling them." I whispered back and pointed at the bewildered one that got hit in the face with my paper ball. The both of them turned to us. Her face gleamed, his face was red with anger since I hit his face. I waved at them to come over here and Jessica nods.
The both of them crawled across the room, under desks and around counters. Jessica accidentally bangs her elbow on a desks drawer when she lost balance. I saw her face and could tell it really hurt. Kal grabbed her waist and pulled her along with him toward us. I checked up on the hunters and saw that half of them had gone upstairs and the other half were wondering around the room, searching where the noise came from. When Kal and J make it, I grab J and hug her tightly. Her back pack jingled with goodies inside. "You brought meds?" I whispered and looked into her bright eyes. She bites her bottom lip and nods happily but then widens her eyes and trembles when there was a loud boom at the entrance door. Beeps were trying to get in.
A couple of hunters pushed their bodies against the door and the other hunters loaded their guns and pointed them at the door and any windows. Gregory tapped my shoulder and pointed at an emergency stair case. "We could get to the roof." He plans out and earns a couple of nods from us. Rolling his eyes he explains the plan detailed, "Distract the hunters, get to the stair cases without getting hurt and then we're out of here. The building isn't that tall. We can make it."
This now sounded even more better and safer. We nod and take another good look at the hunters guarding the door and windows. The four of us talked our plan out. It was going to go perfect.
Jessica's P.O.V
Making my way towards the emergency staircase, I also eavesdrop on the hunters conversation. "Damn Runners. They deserve to run around in hell. This infection is unbelievable. Killed most of our men. No we're stuck with the idiots upstairs."
It was mostly blabbers and stupid things. What amazed me is that not everybody called the Beeps the same name as we do. Runners. There was broken glass on the floor and I carefully crawled around it. "Shit." I hissed in pain as a piece glass dug into my thigh. I dragged myself, slowly, and cried silently from the pain. I reached the door of the emergency stair case. Time for the plan to commence. I turn my body around so that my feet were now facing the door.
1, 2, 3.
I banged the door by kicking my feet hard on it. Quickly, I crawl to hide behind a counter and listen to the sounds of everything. "What was that?"
"Was that the front door?"
"No, came from over there."
Their footsteps got louder as they closed in around the stair cases door. The main stair case to the second floor was Luis's spot. He has to throw a chair at it so the hunters would move over there.Come on Luis. Do it!
Finally, there was a clatter of the chair hitting the main stairs and breaking apart. I wanted to laugh so badly at how quickly the hunters ran to the main stair case. I turn my body around to crawl around the counter and get to the now open stair case. No sense came into my mind that a hunter stayed behind and was standing right in front of me. He kicks my arm, causing me to grunt and fall to my side. Taking out my knife out of my back pocket, I stab the hunters ankle and he falls down. I crawl towards his upper body and closed my eyes when I swung my knife at his neck.
The sound of a gasp from him lets me know that he is dead and I open my eyes. I check for other hunters but the others were at the main stair case. Hurriedly, I make it to the emergency stairs and wait against a wall for Gregory to come. The plan was for all of us to distract and kill all the hunters ( if we can ) and get to the roof. Gregory stumbled in, a hunter followed behind, both of them collapsing to the floor and fighting. I jump into the fight and pin the hunter down. He shook his head and squirmed under me. Gregory slit his throat. I hate hurting other people but it was for our own good. They were going to kill us for no reason. We're saving other peoples life's if we kill these hunters.
"Kal knocked over a few things and messed everything up. The hunters saw Kal and I. Kal was outrunning them but I don't know what happen after tha-
"I'm here." Kal tells us as he gracefully walks in. "Are they gone?" I asked him. Luis walks in with a grin and says, "All dead." I shivered at his reaction to killing them all. "Don't get too cocky. There are more upstairs and they've probably heard the commotion down here. Let's go."The four of us climbed up all of the stairs without a problem. The hunters didn't hear anything I guess, because they didn't come after us. We made it to the roof. I was freezing my ass off up here. I moved my feet in a slow pace on the snow and suddenly, yelled in pain. My thigh. I forgot all about it. I fell to my knees on the snow and Luis kneeled down beside me. He observed my wound and quickly went through my back pack. He took out a first aid kit and searched for bandages. When he did, he had me lie on my back and told me to relax. The sound of the bandage unrolling scared me. Quickly, Luis wrapped the bandage on my wound and around my thigh, then tightening it.
"Get up." Luis orders and I put my arm over his shoulders. He squeezes his arm around my waist when we hear a noise we were not expecting. "Up here!" A hunter called out. I tried to see how many hunters were there but Luis pulled and pushed me to running across the roof. Gregory and Kal were running ahead of us. The most dangerous thing out of all we had done so far... We have to jump over a 5 foot long space between the bank and the upcoming building.
We're fucked.
