To Have and to Hold

"Gray Fullbuster, do you take Juvia Lockser, to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do."

"And do you Juvia take..."

Juvia looked at Gray, her fiance and the prince of her heart. They were finally going to live happily ever after!

"Gray Fullbuster, to be..."

A deafening roar split the air, and madness descended. The roof of the church was ripped clean off as a demon attacked. Juvia tripped on her dress, falling to the floor. The ugly beast reached into the church and snapped up Gray in its claws before she could stop it.

"GRAY NOOOO!!!!" Juvia screamed. Faitytail Wizards attacked the beast while Juvia stood frozen in shock. The demon fled, carrying her beloved Gray with it. He tried to use his ice powers, but the demon seemed resistant to them. Regaining her senses, Juvia gave chase. The demon ran along the coast line, so Juvia became one with the water, following as fast as she was able. Despite her efforts, the demon beat her to a tower over a cliff and tossed Gray through a window at the highest point. It then crawled into a giant cave beneath the tower with one last roar, no doubt waiting to attack pursuers.

But Juvia was determined. No beast was going to kidnap Gray on their wedding day and get away with it! Still one with the water, Juvia crept up to the cliff face adjacent to the cave and began to creep up in a pillar of water. Quietly she went, up higher and higher, until she finally reached the base of the tower. She was about to use her remaining water supply to propel herself in the room when the widow exploded in a shower of ice and stone. Gray windmilled through the air, obviously misjudging the distance between the tower and the edge of the cliff. He had been aiming for the ocean, but was headed straight for rock. 

"I'll save you Gray!" Juvia shot herself through the air to Gray, sending them both spiraling towards the ocean. Juvia did her best to cushion the fall, but they still hit the water hard. The commotion brought the demon out of the cave and it swung its massive fist at Gray. He wasn't going to get out of the way fast enough. Juvia propelled herself through the water, knocking Gray out of the way, but taking the brunt of the blow herself. Her body was made of water, but the force send her splashing at the side of the cliff. She heard Gray shout her name, then everything went dark.

When Juvia regained consciousness, Gray and the rest of Fairytail were battling the monster. It wasn't going well for them. Natsu shot fire at the beast, but it had no effect, and the other wizards were having a difficult time fighting from the cliff. Several wizards lay on the ground moaning, and a few Juvia wasn't sure were still alive. If only Makarov hadn't been called away on council business. Laxus was also absent since he  had been incapacitated during their last mission.

Juvia stood and launched her own attack at the monster. A column of water shot up, slamming into its stomach. The demon turned to her and its eyes burned red. It was preparing a laser attack. If Juvia was hit with that directly she'd evaporate.

"Enough! I won't let you hurt Juvia!" Gray bellowed "I'm ending this now!" Gray fell into a stance Juvia didn't recognize with his arms crossed in an "X" parallel to the ground. 

"Gray don't do it!" Natsu yelled.

"As far as I'm concerned, Juvia and I are married." Gray turned the icy gaze that made Juvia heart melt upon her, and Juvia realized with horror what he planned to do. "She's my wife, and I will do whatever it takes to protect the woman I..."

The demon swept a hinged claw at Natsu, who had launched another attack before turning its gaze back on Juvia. 

"Ice Shell!"

Juvia knew what she had to do. It was forbidden magic for water women like her. Her mother had told her never to use it under any circumstances, but there was nothing she wouldn't do for Gray. 

"Blood Spear!" Juvia cried launching herself at the monster. When she made impact, she fused herself with the water in its body and wrenched, forcing muscles and and organs to tear into a gaping hole through its center. To do so, Juvia had to fuse herself with the demon's very being, and felt herself become poisoned with its evil. If she survived, it would take a long time to recover.  The demon roared in agony as it was ripped apart, its ragged cry merging with Juvia's as they both went crashing into the ocean.
