After I had called her that first time we had kind of established a routine, I would call her every night after I had gotten home from whatever I had been doing that day; and we would talk for hours. Our topics ranged diversely, from my career as a member of a band to hers as an up and coming fashion designer.
Only after I had gotten to know her pretty good I asked her on a date. It was an incredibly nerve racking experience, I had actually never done this before. Cora was the only girl I’ve ever loved and after her death I never even took it into consideration to date.
But now that I knew her better and I was for sure that this, whatever was between us was going to lead somewhere, I was prepared to ask her out.
So I called her.
“Hello,” Her gentle voice traveled through the miles that separated us.
“Chloe,” I smiled slightly, I pictured her sitting on her couch, watching a cheesy movie, a grin lighting up her gorgeous face as she heard my voice.
“Liam! How are you?” She questioned sweetly, the concern in her voice was a comfort to me.
“I’m wonderful. But I have a question for you ma’am.” I sat back in my chair and waited for her reply.
“Yes?” Her tone was careful, reserved.
“What are you doing tonight? Say around 7.” I smiled as I heard her gasp lightly then giggle.
“I don’t know Liam, why don’t you tell me?” The slight teasing edge of her voice made my heart leap; she was going to say yes.
“How about dinner at this nice restaurant called Monte Chellos and then a stroll in the park if you’re up to it?”
“That sounds like a date, nate.” A breathy laugh caressed my ears.
“Wait? Who’s Nate?” I played along.
“Liammmm,” She giggled playfully.
“I’ll see you around 7 beautiful.” I would be counting down the few hours between now and then.
By the time I pulled up in front of her house my stomach was tied in knots. I quickly turned the car off, grabbed the white roses and climbed out. I felt like I was going to puke; it had been so long since I’ve actually went on a date. Cora and I had only been on a few and with her everything was so natural, I never had to worry. I hoped it’d be the same, or close to it, with Chloe.
“Liam.” The door opened and I looked up to see Chloe’s smiling face, god she was gorgeous. Her caramel colored hair was curled into soft waves and her hazel eyes shone as she grinned. Wow. She looked stunning. Her body was clad in a short black dress that had a cutout in the back, and red heels.
“Chloe. Wow, you look stunning.” I pulled her into a gentle hug, quickly breathing her sent in, not in a creepy way though. I stepped back slightly with a lopsided grin on my face, “Here.” I held out the roses so she could have them.
Gasping she reached out and grabbed the flowers out of my hands, bringing them up to her nose she closed her eyes and inhaled. Her whole face relaxed and a smile appeared on her face, lighting up all of her features. “Thank you Liam.” She whispered shyly, her eyes met mine and I held them for a couple seconds before she cleared her throat and looked away. “Well these need water. Do you want to come up for a minute?” Her voice was curious, I nodded and followed her as she disappeared back into her flat.
