Jac looked around the bar with puzzled looks on her face. She of course, was looking for Zosia. She ordered an orange juice as she didn't know how long the night would be. For all the consultant knew, Zosia may not turn up at all although Jac wanted her to. Not one soul had ever made Jac feel the way that she did. Taking a sip of her juice, Jac glared around the bar. A room full of all loved up couples and family suppers; then there was Jac, drawing attention to herself; she couldn't help it, a dressed up woman sat alone.
Ms. Naylor fiddled with the strap on her clutch bag. Moisturiser, toothbrush, hairbrush, conditioner - she came prepared, however didn't get her hopes up. Besides, the doctor hadn't turned up yet. Uncharacteristically Jac worried about Zosia for a moment. Was she okay? The consultant did sentence her home when she needed somebody most. This wasn't a sin in her mind, it came naturally to her but this, the one person she cared for; the one person she felt something for. The one person she loved. Jac couldn't deny herself anymore but equally she couldn't pounce on Zosia. Zosia could hate Jac, she never knew - what reason would Zosia have to like Jac? Let alone love her.-
Zosia stepped out of the taxi cab, rearranged her hair and coloured her lips with lipgloss. Keeping her cool she stepped into the bar like she had treaded out of her own privet jet. The breeze gave her hair a 'wind-struck' look that lit up her entire face. Jac turned round on her stool to greet the junior but paused for a moment. The girl looked stunning, there were no words to describe the beauty on her face. Jac's jaw dropped at the sight but recovered shortly and composed herself.
"Dr. March." The consultant welcomed sarcastically.
"Ms. Naylor." Zosia returned sounding surprised.
"You came then?" The older woman smirked, almost breaking a laugh out. Her professionalism overtook her without meaning to. Whilst they greeted with a handshake.
"Yes, and I can quite easily go as easily as I came." The Doctor returned with sass and she took a few steps away somewhat disappointed at Jac's comments.
"Oh come on now Dr March, have a drink. Gin and tonic?" The consultant said willingly. She didn't really want Zosia to go, after all she'd packed for a good night. The one she'd been hoping for.
"Fine!" Zosia remarked and rolled her eyes, she knew she couldn't go, Zosia didn't really want to. The younger woman sat on a stool next to Jac while her drink was being made, they then moved to a single table out the way from the bar in a cosy, snug, discreet corner away from everyone. With their drinks, the consultant bought another gin and tonic for her own consumption and a bottle of red.-
"What happened today then, Dr. March?" Ms. Naylor made an effort to be professional as it was the best route to go for the time being. Zosia took an abnormally large gulp of her drink before clearing her throat.
"Do we really have to go there, Ms. Naylor?" The girl questioned. Jac sighed,
"Unless you want a complaint of negligence made against you." Both girls downed almost all of their gin and tonics before the conversation resumed.
"What do you want me to say." The junior argued.
"The truth." Jac confessed.
Zosia composed herself before saying anything, in all honesty she didn't know what to say.
"Just one of them days." Dr. March assumed."No, it's more than that. It doesn't take a consultant to work out that you weren't yourself today, Dr. March?"
"Neither does it take a genius to work out that this is not my preferred topic of conversation, Ms. Naylor."
"Oh, I do apologise. I'll go and file that complaint, shall I? Dr. March?"Jac stood, for effect for course.
"Wait! Stay, please?" Zosia asked, without meaning to she held her hand out to stop Jac leaving as if Jac was leaving forever. But Zosia snatched it away before Jac could do anything.
"Um, I- ,sorry. Don't know what got over me just then." The junior scratched her neck looking away. The consultant sat again and opened the bottle of red. She poured it into the two glasses, big glasses. Jac sniffed hers and took a few enormous mouth-fulls whereas Zosia picked the glass up and downed the lot without trying to be rude.
"About today, Dr. March." Jac wanted an answer from Zosia so took things smoothly, she cared. More than she thought she would.
"Yes. I- um w-well things have been affecting me you could say, Ms. Naylor."
"Is your bipolar affecting you, Dr. March?"
"I-um yes, yes it is. Getting anxious at times and I- I um, haven't slept in quite some time. I can't seem to do anything, anymore." The junior forced the words out with a slight tremble.
"Dr. Digby and Dr. Copeland?" The woman questioned.
"As before I said they're great friends but it's just difficult at times. I need space away from them, particularly when I get anxious like this, like today. But I'm fine." Zosia begged.
"Zosia. You're not fine." Jac explained what they both already knew.
"More wine? I can pay." Zosia changed the subject while poring two more glasses of red. Each of them drank the lot in the short space of not very long.
