Ryan's P.O.VI was woken up in the middle of the night by Scott surprisingly. The red glow from his visor told me that much, but then I was suddenly alert that he was wearing his visor not his glasses. He also was clad in his leather X-Men suit. I followed him silently to the basement, slowly and unsuccessfully trying to shake the remnants of sleep off. We were in the briefing room when I was fully awake and aware of all the people in the room. Hank in a pair of shorts was hanging from the ceiling light with his reading glasses on. Bobby and Kitty were in their suits along with Kurt and Logan.
"Suit up bub." Logan grunted.
"Im confused."
"I've been having visions. Glimpses into the future." Jean started. She was in a nightgown and her red hair was stuck to her forehead with sweat. Scott rubbed her back soothingly.
"She's coming back." She said. Her voice was shaking. Everyone in the room stiffened and tensed. The tension in the air was thick like moisture, I felt as if I could bend it to my will.
"Who exactly is she? The pronoun game kind of pisses me off." I said jokingly trying to lighten the mood. No one budged.
"The phoenix."
"W-WHY!" I shouted.
"I don't know exactly. The phoenix force only chooses a host with telepathic abilities, I only see fire and destruction. And..."
"And?"
She seemed to be mentally debating what to say next. "Like I said I only see fragments." She said evading my question. "I don't know what she wants or who she's going after. All I know is that she's coming."
"How much time do we have?"
"I'd say a month before she enters our part of the galaxy."
I processed all the information for a second. "You said she usually has a host with telepathic abilities. Does that mean-"
"Yes. It is probable that the other telepaths in the school have gotten visions. We'll check with Cassie and The Cuckoos in the morning."
"She should be here. She is part of the team." Even though her actions lately didn't necessarily sit well with me I felt bad about excluding her from this. And maybe all this strange behavior from her was a result of visions that she may or may not be having.
"She's not field ready." Scott said.
"We're going into the field?" I was surprised. I hadn't been in real deep serious field work in a while.
"Our first move is to retrieve the m'kraan crystal, the object the phoenix force is sworn to protect. After the last incident we entrusted the protection of it under SHIELD. We're going to get it back." Hank spoke.
"What's the plan?"
"We're sending a small team of Kurt, you, Bobby and Kitty to retrieve the crystal. Logan will be chaperoning." Scott started. He pressed a button and a holograph of a big plane with what I recognized as quinjets on the roof, appeared over the table.
"This is a mobile SHIELD base of operations. The head agent that supervised the transfer of the m'kraan crystal from our possession to theirs is currently at that mobile base, according to our intel. Agent Phil Coulson." He finished. Phil was in on this?
Phil apparently was a legend when it came to SHIELD. Fury's successor once SHIELD fell. I had only seen him once that night we made our move on the Elites but he seemed like a smart and well organized guy. My knowledge on SHIELD was limited but if the Avengers trusted him, so did I.
