"No, no, no, NO!!!!!!!" I yell at the TV as I watch Yoshi lose the last game of our intense Mario Kart battle. "Ha-ha, I owned your sore ass!" My cocky twin brother Alex says in my face as he sends me one of his infamous jerk smirks. He's older than me by 10 minutes, but he acts like we're 10 years apart! Always calling me baby sis, and ordering me around. Like I need a third parent? Jeez. Honestly one of the most annoying people on the planet. "You wish, I totally dominated your rear-end in the last three races." I return smugly. There's no way he can beat me! Puh-lease! "Rosie! Alex! Dinner!"I hear my mom call from the kitchen downstairs.
As I slowly get up from my bean bag and start cleaning up the mess of controllers and wires laying on the floor, Alex bends down and whispers in my ear, "First one to the table wins." I can hear the smirk in his voice. I immediately drop the wire I was re-tying, and rush out of the gaming room and down the stairs, Alex so close behind me I can feel his breath on the back of my neck. Because my chair is closer to the stairs and I don't have to run around the table, I obviously get to my seat a lot faster. Alex doesn't miss this as he starts to complain. "That's so unfair, your chair is closer!" Even though he's 17, he sounds like a toddler. "Ha-ha, I owned your sore ass!" I say, mocking him from earlier and stick my tongue out at him.
We are soon distracted by the sweet aroma coming from the kitchen. The one thing Alex and I can agree on is that our mother is the best cook in the World. Mom puts down a tray of lasagna down on the kitchen table. Lasagna is my absolute favorite, and my Nonna makes it the best. So naturally, my mom uses her recipe. Oh my goodness that smells so good, my mouth starts to water. My mom sits down at the table (no one can start eating until momma sits down) and I immediately dig in. As I take my first mouthful, I savour the amazing taste of this food. I devour the rest of it, and obviously, devour my second serving.
After dinner is done, I go up to my room and sit on the balcony. Crazy enough, there's another balcony right across from mine, and the room attached to it is Cody's, one of my best friends (and he's very, very cute, but don't tell anyone. I'd melt if he found out). As per ritual, after dinner every night, we have our nightly chats.
"Hey Rosalia" he calls out. Everyone else I know calls me Rosie, but he's always called me by my full name, Rosalia. I don't really know why. I'm not complaining though, he sounds so cute when he says my name like that. "Hi Cody" I say back. "Rosalia, I'm planning a bunch of pranks to finish off the year, and I need your help executing them. "Umm, I don't know." I say nervously. What if we get caught? Call me a nerd, but I actually want to get into a good University. "How dare you insult me like that?" He says with a laugh. " My pranks are delicate and elegant. I've been playing pranks for 4 years, and never once gotten caught." "I don't know..." I say still hesitant about the idea. "Come on, Rosalia, I want to end the year off with a bang. Please help me, I cant do it without you." "Ugh, fine" I give in. " What sort of thing are we doing?" I ask. "It's a surprise" he responds with a sly smirk on his face. And with that, he disappears back into the house, leaving me to wonder what I just got myself into.
